the anita people certainly had a big part in it, but chances are that these people also convinced the common mother into joining the petition. Fear mongering of parents towards games has been done in the past with success more than once. But now its not jackie, now its anita

RWarehall: The ironic thing is if you read the comments, seems like a lot of the people who signed the petition, did so to tell those people how wrong they were. Read them, they are spot on.

Fever_Discordia: I freaking LOVE GTA by the way - the open world gameplay is just the kind of thing I dreamed of as a kid and love it for the same reasons I got so excited about stuff like Mercenary and Elite back then

I've completed all 3 games in the 3rd generation and look forward to getting to GTA 4 but, frankly, if the ability to use prostitutes was taken out I would barely have noticed - it was always like an Easter Egg thing anyway because it's such a pain in the arse - you have to find a fancy enough car but it can't have its top down, you can't bash it up too much then find a prostitute, still not bashing it up or driving too fast while you find an alley etc etc. It's not really a practical way to get health in a hurry, besides, you get full health when you save anyway and I obsessively do that every five mins...

RWarehall: But you make our point. This is not even a standard feature of the game, more of an alternative side quest. So to get the game removed on that basis is greatly misleading as few would do that. But let's also be fair, you can also buy things from males and also get "your" money back. Every which way, the games do not seem to specifically encourage violence toward women. Yet, somehow, many neo-feminists find ways to attack these games and others and cite them as examples of the misogynistic male dominated video game industry. Don't you see how this is misleading and wrong?

As for hatemongering - GG has been doing an excellent job of presenting themselves as wild misogynist wackos. People using that name were the first to stalk, harass and attack others, and they're still doing it. All of the claims by GGers about them being harassed have boiled down to
1) GGers harassing each other
2) Simple disagreements being held up as 'harassment' when it was no such thing (ex: Anita Sarkeesian, who is doing very basic and standard art critique of video games).

Like I've said before, at this point there's been too much abuse and criminal activity by people who support GG to take the group seriously. GG was never about actual ethics concerns, and at this point it's too late for rational people to reclaim it.
