RWarehall: It's pretty clear that petition started from a neo-feminist. The mention of the YouTube "Let's Play" mentioned by Anita. The same cherry-picked argument that only talks about the violence to the prostitutes and ignores the mention of all the violence done to men during the game. The use of the word "misogynistic". Yet somehow Fever wants to misportray the origination of that portrayal as a common mother...
i don't think (s)he trying to misportray it.

the anita people certainly had a big part in it, but chances are that these people also convinced the common mother into joining the petition. Fear mongering of parents towards games has been done in the past with success more than once. But now its not jackie, now its anita

The ironic thing is if you read the comments, seems like a lot of the people who signed the petition, did so to tell those people how wrong they were. Read them, they are spot on.

There's a carrot and stick mechanism in the game that rewards you with a health bonus for using the services of sex workers and then, in an admittedly slightly 'emergent gameplay' way, the optimal, min /maxing 'correct' play is to kill her to get your money back

You're telling me that using a sex worker and then killing her in cold blood is no different to 'there's a lad over there with a machine gun, shoot him before he shoots you' more standard gameplay mechanic?

yeah you can kill ANY random passerby if you like and some drop money but with the prostitutes its 'your' money that you're getting back which is a greater incentive

Plus,as I say, it's the same process that's been creating an excited playground buzz since at least GTA 3 so it's not like something new that's just been stumbled upon...

I freaking LOVE GTA by the way - the open world gameplay is just the kind of thing I dreamed of as a kid and love it for the same reasons I got so excited about stuff like Mercenary and Elite back then

I've completed all 3 games in the 3rd generation and look forward to getting to GTA 4 but, frankly, if the ability to use prostitutes was taken out I would barely have noticed - it was always like an Easter Egg thing anyway because it's such a pain in the arse - you have to find a fancy enough car but it can't have its top down, you can't bash it up too much then find a prostitute, still not bashing it up or driving too fast while you find an alley etc etc. It's not really a practical way to get health in a hurry, besides, you get full health when you save anyway and I obsessively do that every five mins...

But you make our point. This is not even a standard feature of the game, more of an alternative side quest. So to get the game removed on that basis is greatly misleading as few would do that. But let's also be fair, you can also buy things from males and also get "your" money back. Every which way, the games do not seem to specifically encourage violence toward women. Yet, somehow, many neo-feminists find ways to attack these games and others and cite them as examples of the misogynistic male dominated video game industry. Don't you see how this is misleading and wrong?

Yeah, but, as I say, it's always the part that creates the playground buzz, especially amoungst the lads who like to tell you about sitting on our left arm till it gone numb, a gym sock full of chopped liver etc.etc.
Which is why I believe the 'concerned parent' angle because it sounds loads more like something someone heard these lads going on about than someone who actually played the game
No it's not a fair representation of the game as a whole but still it IS in there and leaving it in there for all those years was always going to be a chink in the armour that was going to cause problems sooner or later
And killing an unarmed person you just had sex with, even for money or maybe especially for money is far darker then the vast majority of video game violence

Again, it was not "concerned parents" who got the game removed from the stores. The game was not removed because of its general violence. It was removed because of a petition drive started by neo-feminists who claimed it promotes specificly violence against women.. I do not see why you feel it so necessary to paint this as someone else's work or why you keep trying to come up with justifications for their actions. What they did was wrong.
But I thought if you gave someone money and then killed him/her; they'd have it instead of magically disappearing. This is just a detail they added in; especially considering they always make stuff is as accurate as possible; like having to shave; character dialogues, etc.

As for hatemongering - GG has been doing an excellent job of presenting themselves as wild misogynist wackos. People using that name were the first to stalk, harass and attack others, and they're still doing it. All of the claims by GGers about them being harassed have boiled down to
1) GGers harassing each other
2) Simple disagreements being held up as 'harassment' when it was no such thing (ex: Anita Sarkeesian, who is doing very basic and standard art critique of video games).

Like I've said before, at this point there's been too much abuse and criminal activity by people who support GG to take the group seriously. GG was never about actual ethics concerns, and at this point it's too late for rational people to reclaim it.
Hi gang! X-D Just dropping in for the lulz!! Here it is - a prime example of one of their favorite old tricks. They (anti-gaming neofems) accuse the other side (pro-gaming "freedom fighters") of every vile criminal act they've commited themselves, with little or no proof ie: name calling us everything that they know themselves to be! Then they sit back and let msm (main stream media) do their worst.

And in my best shocked church lady voice "Have you seen what that horrible man at Reaxxion is saying now! Mercy me something needs to done! Something needs to be done!"

Emob78: SJWs mentioning humor and parody... LOL... Irony stepped up and smacked parody in her bitch nose and ran off to tell Mr. Sarcasm just what a slut she really is.

I just love reading these little Twitter word wars. It just reinforces the smile I have on my face, waiting for the day when God hate-fucks us all with a giant asteroid from outer space. In that at least there will no discrimination or prejudice.

(while I'm obsessed with The Simpsons today, more than usual, for some reason, it seems...)
Nah. Just getting tired of seeing people turning every Twitter or forum post into a civil rights march. First world problems by bored, over stimulated campus hipsters and personality cultists.

Klumpen0815: Stuff like this should be able to let you start thinking:

[links to reaxxion removed]

Seriously, stop being lazy and just believing the loud haters.
Linking to reaxxion in order to demonstrate how gamergate isn't a vile hate movement is like taking a shit in order to disprove the existence of the human digestive system.
