sanscript: One person thought I was coughing when I was light throwing an item in my shopping cart. She stared at me like I was the devil himself, and literally jumped 2 meters in 1 second when I walked past here...
That person should have already stayed at no less than 2 meters of you, actually.

Carradice: Hi there. Would you share any details about the lockdown in India? What are the exceptions? Are people allowed to shop for groceries? The lockdown is being enforced and people taking it seriously?

Also, any observations related to the food chain will be welcome.
avatar
7PCGamer: theres a lockdown in effect atleast till 14 april..
all modes of transportation have been grounded (including private vehicles)
only emergency services are allowed to run .. i.e no impact to media, law & order, telecom, healthcare, f&b, financial services (only front ending services and stock market related services) .. no problem yet on supplies of essentials.. demand is expected to drop in metro cities as casual labour have reverse migrated and all restaurants have been shut ..
cipla is working on a generic version of remdesivir..

btw thanks for your earlier input on SIR model...

edit: numbers reported are in 600+ range.. but most believe its under reported due to a conservative testing strategy
You are welcome. Thank you for the data on India. For sure we all will draw lessons on how to do things. The challenge is formidable. Time for the people and the authorities to shine.

If we should be so extreme then we ought to have some sort of queue system in place just to get out of our house.

Actually, by using payterminals you're in fact much less than 2 meters from the person behind the counter...

For sure there is a queue system in all open shops and public buildings open in Italy and Spain. You ought to try that and start keeping your distance.

About using the pay terminals, the shopkeeper may hold it at arm's lenght and you operate it at arms length. You two will stay away from your mutual breath and possible sneezing, and avoid touching each other. Even better if the pay terminal is on the counter and you do not need to approach anyone.

Just think: people already has been been facing these problems and more in daily life already for weeks. And above all the best you can do is leaving your home only when strictly required.

Another thought: when you implement quarantine measures, you will see your world changed. The good thing is that you will have two ways of adapting:

1) By thinking and taking your own decisions regardless of what others are doing.

2) By conforming to other's behaviour once the new laws and social mores are into place. This is due to the gregarious side of human nature.

One of the two, possibly both, will make you consider natural what right now might be unimaginable at this point.
Staying home now for the 4th day, without going anywhere.

Playing games all day. I'm actually quite enjoying this. :D

My cat is so happy too, seeing me home all day long. :D

Once the weather is good, I'm going to do some kebab (on charcoal) or/and some smoked meat. <3

Stay home guys! Find something interesting to do, and stay home!

All the best!
I got one pack of toilet paper! And pasta! And rice!

200 XP well earned... XD

DadJoke007: I'm starting to get concerned about the potential famine when supply chains get disrupted. This doesn't look good for countries that are not self-sufficient when it comes to food.

The bigger the machinery, the more time it takes for it to start. The potential economical effect this might have is way scarier than any virus.
This....I have heard tell(haven't verified yet, but I likely will do so soon to be sure when I get the chance) one grocery not far from me shut it's doors for a bit due to having not much food to sell.

Also the store that are open have snacks/"luxury foods and drink" available and some other foods, but the staples are selling out quickly(or are gone in some cases).

In times like this i'm reminded of the story of the grasshopper and the ant.....the ant prepared while the grasshopper played around and laughed at the ant.....well many of us were like the grasshopper and now wish we were like the ant. :\

falloutttt: Say, we humies and all the creatures here on earth, have no eyes and incapable of feeling the heat from the sun. The question is, will the sun shine ? if we can't see it nor feel the heat ?

The answer is, No.
Yes, it will....we just won't see it or feel it.

(There are some animals that don't see or feel the sun's warmth/light, living in the darkest caves or ocean's depths, yet the sun still exists)

avatar
falloutttt: Same with a tree falling where there's no one to see/hear it. If there's no one to see the tree falling, the tree simply don't exist.
The tree also exists.....for all intents and purposes the tree may as well not exist(if no one notices it), but it still physically exists.

I may watch them out of interest, but bear in mind I am more logical oriented, over philosophy, so it likely won't change my mind much(though I suppose anything is possible to some degree).

morolf: Sounds like bs to me, that would mean that Covid-19 is significantly less deadly than the seasonal flu epidemics, which can't be reconciled with what's been happening in China, Iran, Italy and Spain. imo media like the Financial times have a transparent agenda in promoting such stuff, they want an early end to lockdown measures for economic reasons.
One of the reasons Covid 19 is much deadlier is because we don't have a vaccine.......if we had one imo we'd likely have this much more under control(close to how it is with the regular flu season).

Also regardless of what they want, we have to likely re-open trade/the world within a certain period else face even worse financial times for everyone except maybe the super rich(including food shortages, lack of jobs for people to go back to, etc).

As I said earlier ITT, it's a tough decision and i'm glad I don't have to make it. :\

Fender_178: Here is an update for PA. All PA schools remained closed until April 6th.
This is good, though state govts should have ALL voluntarily shut things down at the same time...this piecemeal BS isn't going to help as well as that sort of move would've.

I think that the Schools here are not going to reopen until Fall if the Virus is done by then.

Now there's a tough elderly group in our society that isn't afraid and doesn't give in to hysteria, unlike our younger members. One person thought I was coughing when I was light throwing an item in my shopping cart. She stared at me like I was the devil himself, and literally jumped 2 meters in 1 second when I walked past here...
The "funny" thing is, if she got money as change from the teller for her shopping or touched something that didn't get disinfected that someone else touched then she likely still came into contact with others anyways.

Being cautious is fine and should be done due to this, but a few are going overboard imo.

Thank you, and I am staying home(I do so most times anyways regardless of pandemics being a thing or not, due to mental issues).....I just hope the govts don't try keeping this up past 2 months, for the sake of those who need to work in non-essential industries/etc and other people.

To everyone else: As said above, I am doing well enough but sadly my one cherished feline companion(cat) died yesterday(old age)......so I might be a bit down in the dumps/more likely to be "snippy" for a bit.

That said, I wish you all well and hope you and your all stay safe and well through all this. You are all in my prayers(even the low raters).

Sure, but I find it immensely irritating that there's so much talk (at least in the US, and to a lesser degree in Germany a well) of loosening restrictions which have been in place for only a few days...imo they need to be kept for as long as it takes to bring the situation to a manageable level and stop the escalating rise in new infections, And that's probably going to take at least 4-6 weeks.
And yes, main problem is that this is a new disease and nobody has any immunity to it, so it will spread like wildfire if unimpeded.
Sorry about the death of your cat, must be especially hard at a time like this.

Exactly.

At least they are not Brazil's president who is downplaying the entire thing and calls it overstated. He's continuing as normal, and has not really any restrictions in place.

He was only forced to implement the few measures he has. He was even pictured in a massive group just the other day!

To be honest here, I think it will take more than 2-3 weeks. I think 2-3 weeks is the minimum. Most like the governments will ask for extra week or two. Depending where you are, it may take even more time.

I'd say it's better to prepare yourself mentally, that it will take more time. Rather than waiting for a surprise.

I feel 4-6 weeks is fair....I just don't want govts doing it for 4-6 months(and sadly there are some in the states who support such things or would support such things out of fear).

morolf: And yes, main problem is that this is a new disease and nobody has any immunity to it, so it will spread like wildfire if unimpeded.
At least it isn't mutating much and most who get it get the milder variant and don't die...so there's that at least.

morolf: Sorry about the death of your cat, must be especially hard at a time like this.
We had it for over 12 years(found it as a stray and took it in during winter), so yeah it's hard on the whole family(especially during these times).....that said thanks for the condolences, as they are appreciated.

Agreed, which is why I said(more or less) ITT that around 1 1/2 to 2 months seems fair and proper for this.

Sadly, that may become the case for some people down the line(especially in third world countries).
