Nothing with what I said ruled out what you just said, unless you just wanted to use it as a springboard to highlight the importance of local self-sufficiency. And with that, I absolutely agree, centralization and lack of control over production is a recipe for tyranny. Secession to the tiniest possible geographical area would be preferred, autonomy for everyone and so on.

Now you can barely produce food of any kind yourself and sell it to your neighbor without regulations getting in the way. Even worse if you want to try your luck at a local market. Not being able to trade however we wish without the government interfering makes us slaves and puts us at the mercy of our rulers.

Babies get born from the corpses of old people. Genius, talk about hitting two flies with one stone. I underestimated our rulers. They just feign incompetence for our own good, they are the heroes we don't deserve.

I've been working from home sporadically for a few months, and permanently since the quarantine started. It made me realize the amount of time we waste commuting every day. Plus I drive to work, so I am also saving a lot in gasoline.

I wouldn't want to completely stop going to the office though. I have built a camaraderie with my immediate colleagues that wouldn't be possible without spending time together, and some affairs are better treated face to face. But I hope a new trend develops towards perhaps a 50/50 split between office and home time.

One of the few good comsecuences will be that specifically in Spanish and Italian Great cities and accordingly in the rest of Europe we will have the lowest historical pollution rates ever. Probably.

Let's be honest......fear mongering or not, people WILL panic at some point/in various ways over this...no matter what anyone else says/does.

(That isn't to say anyone should try to make it worse, of course)

Then sterile suits can be made for people to go outside in and treat it as if they were living in some other hazardous environment like Chernobyl

The people who purchased a few months supplies before something like this happened had the right idea.
The stockpilers are most likely the ones that couldn't care less until the last moment or people who couldn't build up some supplies for whatever reason.

Wouldn't only masks and normal clothes(and gloves) be needed for this illness, though(not full gear)?

Agreed.....many of us(including me...had to scramble for some things) had the chance to stock up & many of us laughed such notions off/didn't bother even stocking some basic things....either out of denial or laziness, or being poor/something else out of one's control.

As for me: I was smart enough to stock up for ANY emergency with some canned goods/other foods/etc way before this, so I will be able to hold out 1 1/2-2 months somewhat comfortably if need be(minus maybe TP supplies)......others are likely not so lucky, though, and I worry for and feel bad for some of them.

That sucks.....but(as another user here said) if nothing else positive can be said: at least traffic jams and pollution are being reduced. :|

Hopefully this is temporary....if govts did this for many months id likely say "screw that" and go out anyways(to my yard/etc....and not to infect anyone, just to live life) even under threat of jail/etc.

Well considering you can spread it while being asymptomatic; I hardly think it matters. If you're sick and it's covid you've already spread it to everyone you love by then so just get yourself to a doc and take the same standard precautions you should be taking with ANY cold or flu.

I honestly think that even with everything in place(full lockdown type deals even) many more will get this.....which sucks(dunno a better word for this level of bad atm).

What they ARE doing is that the police is enforcing it. Hefting fines AND for those causing trouble as in insults and open defiance/refusal to adhere to directives -which of course has already happened- can be thrown in station's jails to teach them some 'manners'. Some actually given attitudes deserve a whole lot more than that, if hint here can be taken.

I don't need to stress again what has already been pointed out: coupled with the cavalier/dismissive attitudes of the 'bah it'll die out and it's no more than the flu' we've heard including from some so-called experts, health care in Europe is near to collapse, when it has not done so already. Hence confinement decisions being made. So those thinking that directives don't apply to them for whatever reason should really think hard on that. We are not as lucky as for example Taiwan and South Korea, where the former as already mentioned here had all contingencies in place and ready to be put in action to deal with something like this, and if the latter didn't go into confinement for they had the medical ability to deal with those infected, and had enacted nationwide testing, as well as other measure also in place.

I don't think that's what you should do, they've got special hotlines (at least in municipalities in Germany, but I'm sure everywhere else in the developed world too) which you should call for further instructions, so you don't spread the virus to general practitioners or other medical personnel.
