So, basically, every time you declare that “a new round begins”, everyone is allowed to request 1 daggered and 1 non-daggered from the update list, instead of depending on “an update comes”, is that it? (I’m not very confident in my English reading, thus I’m asking) If this is the case, it seems quite simple and fair.
Glad to see you have settled well, finkleroy and that you're working hard to improve this community giveaway.

I like the 1+1 per update rule and that multiple DLC for the same game count as one daggered key.
Not totally sure about 5+7 from main list as that seems like quite a number for me, but if there are a lot of keys in the main list and you want to get rid of them then it makes perfect sense.

As for nomination it's quite simple why they don't happen frequently. You can't see GOGer's Steam wishlist as easily as you can see their GOG wishlist (if they have enable this of course). Also, people are more generally concerned about grabbing as much as they can rather than what their fellow gamers want for themselves. But nominations still can happen, so it's good to have them.

Concerning editing post, well as you have already said it, it's quite a gray area and it will remain to be like that until GOG forum posting functionalities don't change (and we know what won't happen anytime soon xD). People who are fair won't abuse it, those who aren't will and that's the whole story, no need to sweat about it.

Keep up with awesome job, finkleroy! :)

The only reason rounds will exist is because, let's say there are 40 games that are extremely popular in a new update, but only 20 people request those games. That will leave another 20 that, if they were added to the main list, could be immediately requested by only 4 users.

The frequency and size of each update will depend upon the number of keys that are donated. This will not change. The only thing that's changing is that when an update is released, everyone can only request 1 daggered key and 1 non-daggered key. After things calm down a bit, I'll let everyone request 1 more daggered key and 1 more non-daggered key before I add the update to the main list.

There are currently 530 keys on the main list that are just sitting there doing nothing. The total amount doesn't really seem to change much over time; about as many keys are added as subtracted each month. If these games can find a new home, that's preferable to them just sitting on the digital shelf collecting virtual dust.

Finkleroy, first of all, thank you for your effort, time and energy running this, for letting us have some contribution of ideas in the process of tweaking the rules (even if you decided to ignore our ideas--I don't care if you did or not; you're in charge here, not us, therefore it is your decision--you still listened and we appreciate that).

I think I understand the new rules, and regarding edited posts. yeah, most everyone seems honorable here, and not like the type of person to edit to change a prior post in order to beat someone else out. I don't think i ever knowingly did that except when --to the absolute best of my knowledge--nobody else had requested the game yet; I just wished to avoid clutter and make things easier to track for Zeo. I guess we're on the honor system, if we notice someone's post (say #100) edited to request a game after #110 requests the same game, obviously #100 does not get it. OTOH, we don't want to ourselves be constantly suspecting others of maliciously doing what is frowned on, this turns us into suspicious goats or other similar beasts.r
However, editing for typos should be allowed, as should editing to remove a request.

What I have started trying to do is when I have a post which quickly follows the previous one, maybe a little too quickly, I start the new post with:

----------------------------- (or similar)
EBWOP: [text]

Unless we have massive issues with editing to request a game in order to beat out someone else's request, meh, editing posts should stay allowed, and maybe only be disallowed on a user-by-user basis. You've been quick enough I doubt it will be an issue.

I see nominations as an excellent way to reward a key giver or the organizer (finkleroy) who might feel like they ought not ask for a game because they are running this thing. We, the random users, can see their Steam wishlist (if we can find it) and nominate them for something they want.

So, to recap to see if i got this right:

2-4 keys from the update list per update cycle before being the contents of the update list are transferred to the main list?

When do these changes go into effect???

As this is allowable under both old and new rules, I would like to use my 3rd August request for Commander: Conquest of the Americas for my sibling. If it is allowed (if the new rules are in effect yet, otherwise it is my 4th request for Aug and should be ignored) I would also like to request Cities in Motion 2 towards my August totals.

Wait, so, up to 2 rounds per update? I thought there’d be no upper limits for room for bigger updates when I read. Maybe you should state that even more explicitly when you actually write the rules, so that people with my level of English skills can get it in one go;)

As for the main list, yeah, 5+7 also seems a bit too many to me. I mean, it seems like a temporary policy to shrink the list a bit, but for the long run, won’t the list dry up within one or two months and then the upper limits suddenly become meaningless since there won’t be that many game to choose from anymore?

Just some of my shallow thoughts:)

The number of rounds will depend on the size of the update and how many popular games have been requested. Depending on the circumstances, there could only be one round, or there could be quite a few. I'll take it on a case-by-case basis.

I haven't seen any real change in the number of keys on the main list for the entire 10 months I've been helping manage/managing the giveaway, and the 5+7 rule is meant to try to get those games a good home. I'll take a look at how quickly the list shrinks and decide if I want to keep or modify this rule.

Thank you for clarifying this :D

Thank you SerpentineCougar for Commander: Conquest of the Americas! It is appreciated! Thank you again, Finkleroy for running this giveaway!

@Finkleroy, if you had to come up with a nickname for folks here to call you (based on your username?), what would you choose, if anything? Sorry for the random question.

I'm not quite sure nicknames really work that way. I mean, I've already chosen the nickname finkleroy. If others want to call me something else, that's up to them. I don't mind and have gotten used to being called "finkle" and "fink", but I prefer finkleroy. The only real reason I can think of for giving my nickname a nickname would be if you were saying it out loud. It's up to you, though.

EDIT: It just occurred to me you meant something like zeogold's nickname "The Puzzlemaster". I've never really done nicknames. In fact, my parents chose my first name, in part, because you can't make a nickname out of it. Just call me finkleroy, unless you want to come up with something on your own, which is usually how it goes with these types of nicknames.

Ok, thanks. I appreciate the answer. I was asking in part because some usernames get abbreviated in things like Forum mafia (think HyperSomniacLive's or SirPrimalForm's username) and afaik those users haven't strenuously objected, but i've learned from experience that it is always better to ask before shortening a nickname or making a nick for a nick.

Side note: I once knew a guy named Roy. He was a true gent and quite a guy. I've never before nor since known of knowing a Roy.[/sidenote]

I agree with new rules, they seem to be the best solution.

As for edited posts, I think we should leave our posts as they are if there's only some typos. It's not a big deal (really) if someone has made a mistake. But if someone is about to edit their request they should take a picture of their original request and pin it to edited post. It can take less than a minute. This way we can see if the user is really cheating or not. :)
Really nice change of the rules @finkleroy - really appreciating your work for the GA!

how do you attach/embed a pic to a post? I've never learned how.
