Where can I find a ROM for the Famicom Disk System version of Super Mario Brothers 3? (the floppy disk one)

Emuparadise only has the Famicom cartridge version released after the western versions and I couldn't find a download for it elsewhere, or at least a safe one.

Any ideas where I can find a safe download for Mario 3 FDS?

I do believe this is a taboo topic. While you can talk about emulation, referring where or how to get ROMs is discouraged or possibly even against TOS.

Was the game in question even released on a disk? I know 1 and 2j (Lost Levels) were, but haven't heard about 3 being released that way.

(1 was released both on cartridge and (later) disk, while 2j was released only on disk. The cartridge version of 1 has a different minus world.)

I've been wondering this too. It's possible it was, but no one has submitted a rip of it so there's no copy out there. Also if it's 100% identical I wouldn't see a need to worry about it.

Any changes they might have wanted to do would have been done to the SNES all stars, although that mostly is graphical improvements and minor bugs as the result of re-writing it from scratch.

I wouldn't know that. I don't know where else to ask, considering the real version i.e the disk one wasn't released in the UK or America, and this site is called "Good Old Games" after all.

That video doesn't mention the disk system version at all; it's a comparison of the US and Japanese cartridge versions.

As far as I can tell, the version you are looking for doesn't actually exist; if you want the Japanese version, just get the Japanese cart. (I don't know if there are any issues running Famicom (non-disk) games on a (non-Japanese) NES.)

Alas being good and old isn't enough to qualify, since GoG has to have the rights to sell/distribute it.

I'd LOVE to see Xixit and Mule and other games come here, but that is unlikely.

Regardless best not to mention sites directly for where to get roms or games, even if they are abandoned. I think with the exception of maybe archive.org (although they archive almost everything, there's a thread a while back where they put emulation on the site to allow anyone to play thousands of older games, including SimCity and Masters of Orion).

I already have the Japanese cart and it is identical to the NES one except for Japanese text. The one in the video is the FDS one which is the one people usually mean when speaking about the Japanese Mario 3.

I'd link to where I got it as a form of proof but that might not go down well.

EDIT: My mistake. There appears to just be a cartridge version like you said, but the one I found was just a US one with Japanese text. (a hack maybe?) No wonder I got confused. I'll need to poke around for a legit Japanese one.
