GameRager: As for bad practices....yes,m some arte bad, but if the work they produce is good then they should still be considered good even if one dislikes the practice that brought them about(Example: Some modern storyline DLCs for some games are very good and add much to the main games they belong to).
As for DLC, I should clarify that I don't mean the digital equivalent of expansions of the old days. Labelling your expansion-sized content as DLC is definitely not the way to go as the audience can definitely think that it's a cheap cash grab like most DLC is.

Or to quote another forum member:
"Thats modern devs/publishers shooting themselves in their own foot by shoehorning everything under the "DLC" umbrella. "You want what for your DLC?! Shove your Horsearmor up your A and go F yourself!" is always my first thought while it actually could be worthy full blown expansion packs."

They probably want to be able to put it all under the same menu/option in digital stores and keep from confusing newbs/newcomers.

...which is bad. There is no need to declare it as DLC. Just putting it as <main title> <expansion title> (+ that it requires the main game) makes a lot more sense, especially from a business perspective.

As an aside, something that I forgot to mention: Gaming used to be way more "pure", as in, there was no dubious underlining as it is the case today. And with that I mean stuff like achievements, records and other addicting extras which "motivate" the player to continue playing while not adding anything to the actual game itself. Remember the times when people played games because they were fun or when people created games because it was fun? While the latter has improved since we left the dark times of the mid to late 00s behind us, the former is worse than ever.

Some stuff like achivements/etc are a double edged sword/imo. They can incentivise some to play games new ways and look for stuff they missed, but they can also lead to some more impulsive types to play in a set way to get certain achivements over how they'd normally/naturally play & they also lead some to keep playing for a long time to ghet some of them.
Depending on the summer sale releases, the choice lies between Dying Light, Starpoint Gemini Warlords, Grandia II, or Fade to Silence.

It would also depend of course on the discounts and the actual prices, but unless some star deal eclipses them, those are the main candidates for the time being.

I'd get Wizardry: Labyrinth of Lost Souls but... you know.

:D

I'm going to buy two copies of Cities: Skylines, and one each of Civilization 5 and maybe, just maybe, Skyrim even though it's probably not fun.

I have Skyrim complete for 360 and it's fun so far...if a tad overwhelming for completionists who want to see/do everything like myself.

Very visually engtertaining/etc....though the fact that NPCs follow you when you go into prohibited areas to prevent stealing is hard to deal with sometimes, and the weight limit couild be a tad higher.

I 100%ed Oblivion and didn't have much fun the entire time, but was forced to because I was trying to figure out why my friends and so many people were all on about it. I hadn't like Morrowind either... But it still has to be touched on to know those weird folks out there that like bland games.
Humongous Entertainment Complete Pack of course!

:P

Seriously though I was kinda thinking/hoping the Summer Sale would start today, things are feeling kinda dull (despite GOG Galaxy 2), but it is what it is.

It was not your cup of tea, it would seem....but some of us(like myself) liked the "blandness"(we would call it a calm and nice setting to explore) and the exploration of a world as much as the fighting/magic/etc. It did have alot of walking and empty space though, I agree.

You need to try Subnautica. The best game of 2018 IMHO. Relaxing, peaceful, a lot of fun.

Tell me about it! Just read the other thread mentioning it mere minutes ago!

How this will end, I wonder?
