The problem that I and everybody else has is your offer to equip Tauto (and others) with a spam-deletion script, and say that you'll do it if GOG doesn't do anything about it in 3 months.
You seem not to realize that they'll sooner just shut the forum down, as he and many other trolls would use it to delete useful and beloved threads, and I have no doubt that some members of the community would abuse it as well if given the power. Therefore, what you're effectively doing translates to "Either you make it so my threads stop being deleted or I'll ensure that this forum is closed down!" whether you realize it or not.
If you really want to help, don't offer to give others the tools to make it worse. Rather, explain this fix you speak of and go from there.

For one thing, so far Alaric only proved that the spam-report works exactly as intended- people report spam and it gets deleted. The only person to abuse the forum so far in this entire story is Alaric with his spam. For another, I just provided you , for what, a fourth time, with his conversation where he ofered the tool to Tauto, so, yes, with a known troll. Also, the "everyone publicly" doesn't make it any better. Actually probably makes it worse.

We were talking about this 5 mins fix Alaric proposed, and nobody besides him believe will be done. VSR reasoned that they probably can't do that, since they are hiring programmers. No programmers = no fix.
Then I replied that maybe (and I stress, maybe) there's still someone at Gog who could take care of it, as long as Gog thinks it's worth the effort. That's all.

Maybe it is as you say, the current programmers simply haven't had the chance to get accustomed to the forum's code. I can't claim to have any inside knowledge of how things at Gog works. I don't care much either way, to be honest.

In the end though, the bottom line is that we both agree that Gog don't want to put enough effort on fixing their own forum. Do we really need to agree on how exactly they can't be arsed to do it? :P

I was just pointing out that while from the outside it looks like a 5 minutes job, the reality could be entirely different for a number of reasons.

But yes, it boils down to Gog don't have the capability or desire to fix the forum.

Well depending what the issues are and what the fix is... he may not be able to do that.
By explaining the fix he may giveaway the security hole and letting someone exploit it.

Not quite as bad as a fully formed script to exploit it, as it would require some effort on someones part to do harm, but while I don't think any of the forum regular trolls have the required skills to do so it doesn't mean someone else doesn't.

Look, not for nothing, but I was there during that thread, and TBH & IMO, I felt Alaric was being facetious with regards to "forging a weapon" for Tauto. Not that I doubt his ability to do so, but that he would actually do it. I took it with a grain of salt, and chuckled a bit, as in evidenced in my later comment that I felt I was now in the 40K universe. If Alaric wanted to destroy the forum so badly, I am sure he would have done it by now...why wouldn't he?

All in all, I am greatly saddened by the turn the whole fucking General forum has taken. There were disagreements in the past, but generally not death threats and flame wars that used to only happen in *other* forums. These days, I find myself spending more time in the Game Specific forums, trying to help others who have questions about games I am familiar with, or enough of a memory of, that I might be able to help out with a suggestion. It's just more satisfying to spend time there, then in here overall now.

I don't use Jerkmuter, or ever plan to. But if someone wants to use it, so what? Who really gives a shit? I don't...go ahead. If some people feel it makes their experience here better, or perhaps more tolerable, more power to them....it's called freedom of choice, and doesn't arse me one iota. If I view a thread and it doesn't interest me, I don't bother "down-voting" or any such shit, I just close it, and move on to another that does... If none do, I head to the game Specific forum, and peruse that a while. Shit folks, it's a gaming community, or supposed to be....something we all share in common. Might be nice to remember that, and perhaps start acting accordingly. Mehh, that's all....

It's a fact: anyone mass reporting any post can get it deleted automatically. Any post. This has been well documented and reported long before Alaric made his jerkmuter. How on earth is that "as intended"?

I have no idea how his mind works. But I have no reason to think he was kidding. His view of the forum seems to be a total 180 of reality, with Tauto an other trolls as the good guys, because obviously they applaud him when he spams or threatens to wreck the forum. He plays right into their hand.

The problem is it's impossible to have a proper discussion on a forum where people speak on a general forum, but actually everyone is inside their invisible echo chamber, only hearing who he wants to hear. Still, this is not about Jerk Muter, frankly that thing has little to no bearing on this whole story for me.

Yes. It depends on what you classify as spam. I rate as the worst type of spam threads that aren't meant to provide discussion at all (such as all his "Soon" threads), discussion being the most important thing to have in a forum after all, and tend to be very forgiving to that which results in a discussion regardless of its content.

Other people think that making thread after thread about the same goddamn thing is the worst type of spam.

Alaric only ever makes threads about a single subject: himself. They are all about how he's just such a genius and we'll all see it, or how he's a poor little victim because he's posting spam and the report spam feature is being used to delete his spam, as if that's not exactly what it's intended for.

After 100 such threads about himself he made different ones. Like the one where he finally actually had an argument instead of just the word "soon", or the one that you linked. I would overlook them because for once there was a discussion there.

But make no mistake, they may be worded differently, but they still have the same exact subject: himself. Like the one you linked, which is just another roundabout way to talk about how his spam get deleted, how it's a problem, and how he can fix it.

Frankly, after making 100 other threads about it, I wouldn't blame anyone for calling it spam.

I have a very good life. The main reason for that is that I am surrounded by very intelligent people. This is what I am used to and this is why I am happy. The drawback is that I am not used to having to explain everything I say that has a higher level of abstraction. In this case, very well, I guess it wouldn't make things any worse.

I promised Tauto to make him a weapon to destroy the forum. I did that publicly, knowing full well that it will be seen by everyone. I also chatted with him a bit in private about it, but ended up scaring him off.

All of this is true.

The part everyone seems to miss (and this is what I am unused to) is that the offer was made with an impossible condition. I asked him to prove beyond a shadow of a doubt, the identities of those who delete threads. This is not something he can do. None of you here can. Only GOG's engineers can look it up and they can already delete the forum if they so desire.

So now that we (well, some of us) are on the same page, let's try this again:

Tauto, bring me a perpetual motion machine and I will kidnap a child and eat it alive while streaming in on YouTube.
