Alaric or not. Don't tell me the spam report doesn't have a critical flaw. It is as far from "as intended" as Steam is from DRM-free.

As long as it is used strictly to delete spam, yes, it is working as intended. I can imagine a situation in which it may be used unfairly, and I would indeed classify that as an abuse of the system, but that is not what happened here.

The point though is that during this entire song and dance of Alaric's all he did was post spam, and that spam got deleted.

That's why many people in his threads urged him to be a productive member of the forum and not a spammer, because whatever his grand goal was, all he did was show the feature doing exactly what it was meant to.

Breja, your idea of a "proper discussion" is you are right and everyone should listen to you.

If we really want to go back, this all started with "forum regulars" downrepping and spam reporting Alaric for providing what he thought was a useful tool. I may disagree with the usefulness of that tool (I don't feel ignore buttons ever help on a forum), but that doesn't give these people the right to harass and bully Alaric like they did.

It starts there, with the people who thought attempting to silence Alaric was okay. I have no love for Alaric spamming the damn forums with all these meaningless threads to make a point. But it does not escape me that the true origin of this problem are this cadre of "forum regulars" who think they can bully and harass others to get their way. And this is exactly what you are doing now.

It's no surprise. Pretty much every one of your cultural threads turn out the same way. Talk about people's favorite Sci-Fi series, it didn't take long to find out how intolerant you are to people who think Babylon 5 is better than Star Trek DS-9 as you basically tell them to leave the thread as if you own the forum.

You, and people like you are one of the biggest issues on this forums. The downrepping didn't really start with the scammers either. It started with forum regulars using it as a tool to silence those they disagree with, and the scammers learned from it and ran with it.

The real question is tolerance. When I see so many people calling for the removal of people and threads that are not "trolls", that is the real issue. Don't like their politics, ban them. Don't like the thread, ban them. Doesn't matter the same people like to talk politics, just they want to talk about their politics because their politics are the "right" politics. Don't like that someone creates a script that lets people ignore others, ban them. Because these people are so sure they are right, they think they have the right to play forum Gods. Abuse the system at every turn as part of their personal bullying and harassment campaign to cleanse the forums of anyone they deem undesirable.

Alaric is not one of these trolls. He tried to help. While I may disagree with his idea and script and certainly disagree with his forum spamming temper tantrum, this doesn't make him issue #1. Equally culpable (part of issue #2) are people like you Breja and the other forum regulars who make up excuses to justify your own untoward behavior aimed at eliminating your opposition at any cost.

As I said, there were quite a few situations where the deleted thread was deleted only for being unpopular. Off the top of my head, one guy was praising Denuvo (not spamming; just that one thread). Some of Steam praising goes there too. While you could label some of them as spam if you really stretch the meaning, remember that often these threads would contain normal conversations, regardless of the OP, that end up being deleted too.

I don't care one iota about rep, but i get that others do, and more importantly, i get that when it gets low enough, there are things you can't do, so it gets so depressing seeing someone like TinyE get downrepped to the point of 88.

EDIT: Okaay, now I've done well over 30 posts. Plussed one all of them. And NOTHING. I'm not going to continue because it obviously doesn't matter how many times I plus one it doesn't go up. In this case? Absolutely. It's about as clear cut as possible. To try to present the guy who offers Tauto the tools to further destroy the forum as someone "trying to help" is so pathetic an attempt at manipulating facts it barely warrants a response.

It doesn't matter than there have been countless instances of threads or opinions I, TinyE and others disagree with or don't like, and we only ever wanted only the very worst and most obvious cases taken care of, like homophobic avatars or a thread that serves as nothing more than someone personal spam link dump.

You want to hear something funny? I never onced spam reported any of Alaric's threads or posts. I just think people who did had every reason to. And if it was us, the "evil regulars" with the power to do all that and willing to abuse it so much, why didn't we delete the Gamergate thread yet? Or countless other political threads? Exactly the problem with the forum. Thank you for demonstrating! This is the intolerance that is our forums. This is what has to stop!

I called for consideration and tolerance and I get a "Fuck You" from one of those who can't look in the mirror and see how he has become a big part of the problems. Alaric didn't start this, but some people here sure did and it's only through mutual escalation we got to this point. I'm pretty sure it was not our resident trolls doing it either (since they were having fun shitting up his thread). So who were the mysterious people imposing their will, huh?

But what's clear, Breja and his ilk want things "their" way. Censor, ban and remove all those who they dislike. And they have a reckless disregard for the truth of the situation. No point going through that response, the logic is as holey as Swiss Cheese starting with Breja declaring how the case is completely clear cut despite a number people in this thread already explaining otherwise.

Speaking sense to the man-children and trolls in this forum is very similar to speaking to a wall. I go to a number of Steam's game forums or 'hubs' and they have been more civil then this place. I couldn't have said that in 2012 with a straight face. Most of the old timers have moved on and more continue to do so. I used to wonder why GOG didn't take action sooner, or at all, but the more I thought about it the more I realized I probably wouldn't care either. I do miss TET and his interaction with the community though, and the days of our worst troll being GameRager.

The people who have had posts/threads deleted have had issues with you, which in most cases you started.

The people who have had their rep trashed have all had issues with you.

You have wished physical harm on all these people and made disgraceful remarks about their family.
