what I find delightfully subversive in all this is that it is the downreppers who became the spammers. If they had left it alone, it would have died by itself. However, they kept it alive. Kudos for that.

Deleting spam doesn't make you a spammer, regardless of whether some asshat takes it as a reason to spam more. That's insane. That's like saying that cops are guilty of resisting arrest, because if they didn't arrest people, there would be nothing to resist.

There is only one spammer and only one person abusing the forum in this whole story: Alaric. Let's make no mistakes about that.

If someone punches you and you complain about it, they will then punch you for complaining. And if you complain about that, they'll punch you for complaining again. Until you stop complaining. Alternatively they'll act all indignant about a serial complainer who is disturbing their peaceful existence in which they can punch anyone they want to with impunity.

While I agree with the idea that the spam reporting and thread deletion is a serious issue that needs to be dealt with.. I don't think alaric's 'experiment' or whatever really proves anything.
He was actually spamming before he created the respawning thread, but you may have missed the repeated threads that just said 'Soon' and nothing else.
There are probably legitimate users who also played a part in deleting alaric's thread (as spam), whether some kind of troll or bully is involved as well.

It always was. It was whining about deletion of his previous spam. He posted multiple threads saying nothing but "soon" that got reported as spam, and then, against that "abuse" started his current string of spam, and it was always set up to be posted again, and again, and again.

It is spam, it always was spam, and it could hardly be more obvious.

A thread that says Soon doesn't violate any of the forum rules, is not offensive and should not be deleted. Period.

My JerkMuter thread did not violate any rules either. It was deleted. Same for JerkMuter 2.0 six months later. Same for several other threads I made.

Rather I think that previous posts should not impact on the current. A thread is spam if it is spam, not because the poster have spammed before.
