lolplatypus: Because patterns.
Gersen: What patterns ? they make dozens if not hundreds of similar post, taking some random hashtags, some random gifs or random meme and makes a comment about DRM-free or old games using it.
That's it, that's your pattern. 99% of the time nobody cares (and honestly 99% of the time the "joke" is not really funny), but sometime they use the wrong gif or the wrong hashtags and some goes peoples goes berserk.
They probably didn't thought that an innocuous sounding hashtag like "wontbeerased" would be a nuclear power keg and when they discovered it they immediately removed the tweet.
Like I said last time, given how stupidly volatile the current climate is, especially on twitter with peoples having nothing better to do then taking every single word you post out of context to see if there is anything they could be offended by, it's a dangerous things to do, every single hand gesture, gifs or word can become a "hate symbol" without warning and unless you have always up to date on the current twitter drama (especially the US based ones) those kind of "mistakes" are bound to happen.
Maybe their "
concentrate on games" comments will mean they will stop trying to be the next Wendy and will only post gaming related news on their Twitter from now on.
You're wildly exaggerating the difficulty of being careful, but even if you were right, the smart thing to do would be to play it safe and forego trying to be trendy.
CharlesGrey: Agreed. To me, there's only two acceptable ways to handle this: Either 1) GOG stop posting such jokes entirely, and just stick to a dry, more serious business tone
real.geizterfahr: Great idea. Let's keep on doing this until everything's so boring that people don't know wether to check the "I'm not a robot"-captcha or not. Let's erase (<- yeah, I used that word) everything that could be funny.
CharlesGrey: , or 2) if they really think these jokes are funny, and there's nothing offensive about it, they should stand up for it, and not do a 180 as soon as someone complains.
real.geizterfahr: But what if they don't think it's funny to spit on LGBQT people's feelings? What if they just saw the hashtag and thought it's a fitting hashtag to remember people that they're keeping old games updated for new systems? Maybe the person who abused every queer person in this world by misusing that hashtag didn't think that someone would feel offended by a silly marketing gag? What if we don't live in a world where everyone either wants to erase all LGBQT-scum or embraces the idea that every queer person absolutely has to get their butthole kissed for having set their precious foot on our planet? What if there are people that just don't follow LGBQT-news on every single day of their lives?
Honestly, I think LGBQT community should have the same rights as cis-subhumans like me. But at the same time they should learn to live with the fact that non-LGBQT people will use LGBQT terms to make some harmless jokes. It's like... a woman saying "Suck my d*ck" instead of "Yeah, forget about that".
Seriously, people... Grow up. Not everyone who isn't aware of every single one of your problems isn't a homo/trans/whateverphobic piece of shit.
That isn't going to happen as long as people are being programmed to be offended.
