Unfortunately, this does tend to happen. I've softened on Steam just a bit over the last year and a half or so, but I still hate that they DRMed the PC games industry so hard. Unfortunately, even if they themselves weren't the ones that banned you, they're still responsible by virtue of the fact that they enabled such excessive DRM to pollute this industry so much.

In this case there's very little "political" about it. Valve only pretend to allow transparency up until the point "Why is '3rd party DRM' mentioned on store pages but not 1st party DRM?" questions get asked. Then there's an awkward hypocrisy shaped silence...

Yes, you're right that EULA's and the like don't overrule laws in the country you are in. That said... it's always comical when an American starts boasting about their Freedom of Speech rights, touting the first amendment, when they're *obviously* clueless what the first amendment even is about. There's not a single situation discussed in this thread where it applies.

Yes. Congress. Not random businesses that do something you don't approve of. If congress enacts a law that limits your free speech, that's when you complain about the first amendment. That has nothing to do with a business not allowing 'free speech' on 'public' spaces they manage/are responsible for.

Whenever I ask for a GOG release on Steam, if I don't have the mouse icon, they immediately accuse me of being a pirate lol. I'm used to it at this point. Never been banned though.

rofl, they're not overriding anything since there's nothing in the first amendment that has any relevance to them. The first amendment is quite literally only about congress. The whole point is that -->> the government <<-- can't restrict your right to free speech. It doesn't apply to individuals or corporations.
