Unfortunately, this does tend to happen. I've softened on Steam just a bit over the last year and a half or so, but I still hate that they DRMed the PC games industry so hard. Unfortunately, even if they themselves weren't the ones that banned you, they're still responsible by virtue of the fact that they enabled such excessive DRM to pollute this industry so much.

BreOl72: People who scream the loudest "Freedom of Speech" are usually the ones who know the least of what that actually means. Not to forget: quite often they are also the same people who have zero problems with gagging others to keep them from speaking their mind.
In this case there's very little "political" about it. Valve only pretend to allow transparency up until the point "Why is '3rd party DRM' mentioned on store pages but not 1st party DRM?" questions get asked. Then there's an awkward hypocrisy shaped silence...
What does posting here about some random digital videogame store have anything to do with GOG or the products it sells?
I'm not sure I follow...

People got upset that some commenter got banned from some random videogame store's comment section.
Naturally, they go to a different random videogame store's comment section (which is less severely moderated than the first store's one) and vent their grieve there...

AS882010M0: Wrong ! Under national and international law, a business or corporation must be in compliance with the country's laws within who's borders they operate inside. Electronic or not.
Highest Law of the Land in USA is The Constitution, of which the Bill of Rights belongs to undivided. And the 1st Amendment of such bill protects Freedom of Speech among other things.
Yes, you're right that EULA's and the like don't overrule laws in the country you are in. That said... it's always comical when an American starts boasting about their Freedom of Speech rights, touting the first amendment, when they're *obviously* clueless what the first amendment even is about. There's not a single situation discussed in this thread where it applies.

Don't confuse freedom of speech with an individual ignoring in forums and blogs.
Depending where and which, there are thousands to millions of users in one place.
For you not to ignore the retards, the trolls, the underaged, the spam, is to say I want to be inundated with stupid shit to the point I cannot reach an article of interest.
Censorship is when an Organization, Business or Government is silencing you for not liking what you say. They all have the right to ban hackers, spam & pornography (same difference).

1st Amendment: "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances."

Now Corporations are not elected and have 0 powers and far less than CONGRESS.
Get It ? Got It ? Good.

I have proof Steam is evil, trust me.

No, sorry, I'll need more than that.

This really needs a facepalm emoji somehow.

The law is specifically about the ability of CONGRESS to limit your rights, and only that. Not CONGRESS AND FAR LESS

Better learn some more, the Bill of Rights is there to LIMIT CONGRESS from taking the peoples' rights. For any reason.

Yes. Congress. Not random businesses that do something you don't approve of. If congress enacts a law that limits your free speech, that's when you complain about the first amendment. That has nothing to do with a business not allowing 'free speech' on 'public' spaces they manage/are responsible for.

Ancient-Red-Dragon: Steam forums certainly do not allow free speech, and nor do GOG forums either.

Both are anti-free speech platforms.

Whenever I ask for a GOG release on Steam, if I don't have the mouse icon, they immediately accuse me of being a pirate lol. I'm used to it at this point. Never been banned though.

Business does not get to override the USA Constitution anymore than Congress.
HELLO ? Brains ? Go buy Some !

rofl, they're not overriding anything since there's nothing in the first amendment that has any relevance to them. The first amendment is quite literally only about congress. The whole point is that -->> the government <<-- can't restrict your right to free speech. It doesn't apply to individuals or corporations.
