Just wanted to point out that the title + link for the wishlist entry for Starward Rogue were changed by gog support to get the game name + trailer updated to release data.

Thanks! Updated!

Also, does this mean it's coming to GOG!?

No, unfortunately not. I just requested an update to the wishlist (by recommendation from the Arcen forums) since Arcen changed the name a bit before release (dropped the subtitle) and the early gameplay video was very much outdated and didn't show the current state of the game and gog then added the game trailer.

Bigs: No I'd say spam is pretty apt.

this might offend you but just saying what i meant back there

don't get me wrong you and barry are doing a good job trying to get games down here but there ought to be something said for having some dignity , gog rejects games due to reason they feel this place should have a unique selection rather have the same spam steam does.

i have personally read about in other forum threads about how they soon expect a "spam' request from barry or you whenever anything is released , some people even thought the two of you as bots.

But that doesn't mean that GOG makes bad decisions, nor does it mean that they always have any actual valid reason to reject a game. The Cat Lady is an excellent example of this. There have been a lot of very solid and excellent indie games that have come out in the past year or so that have been seemingly rejected for no good reason (hence the "...it's too niche for GOG..." jokes that have cropped up lately).

The real headscratchers were games like the Hatoful Boyfriend series. Not to dump on them, but it's incongruous for GOG to have apparently rejected Japanese 2D shmup games (from developers who are well-known in the genre) on the basis of them being "too niche", and then turning around and releasing a Christmas-specific sequel to a Japanese pigeon dating sim/VN.

That is why we need a proper way of getting good games here not trying to get every spam of games that are released , i hope you noticed the thread that barry made a few days back about "good indie games that are missing on gog" and how it instead just turned into spam of games that ever came out.

GoG should be the place where you will want the devs rushing to release games like it was a gold standard , a proud moment not the place where you have to spam and beg each and every dev, publisher day and night to release the game and then again beg and spam them to support their released games.

Why should we act like the 2nd class for every game release?

Don't get me wrong, I'm not necessarily supporting the spamming of games, and even I grow a little tired sometimes of the threads spawned about how "indie game xyz" should be on GOG. But I think that this year people should be more willing to hold GOG's collective feet to the fire and get them to at least be a little more transparent about their acceptance/rejection policies.

I definitely contact devs and pubs a lot via Twitter (though definitely politely); what I meant was I don't constantly contact the same one week, I mix it up to avoid "spamming" a single one.

If you or others want to consider that spam, fair enough. I really don't plan on stopping, though. ;)
Just to add my 2 cents:

I was checking the Steam store for other stuff and Staward Rogue was directly in the upper banner "roll" thus it has the highest visibility on the homepage for casual web visitors (I was not logged in). Needless to say that this spot is not for every small indies titles ("The witness" was next in the banner roll...)

Pic or it didn't happen: see attached file below

I can confirm that.

Ok, i'll be that guy... Why point out the banner on the front page? Does it really matter?

Starward Rogue: Owners: 1,019 ± 703

Subterrain: Owners: 7,134 ± 1,861

Crashlands: Owners: 10,701 ± 2,279

(There's only one day difference between those releases but let's be honest here, the game won't sell +6000 in one day unless piewsomethingsomething guy does a video about the game.)
Eh... so yeah
This is Chris Parks post about this: https://arcengames.com/great-work-on-starward-rogue-team-now-youre-all-laid-off/

Eitherway Chris said that they are still interested in gog regardless of what is happening with them financially and especially with the press exposure problems.

So you can still vote for it here: http://www.gog.com/wishlist/games/starward_rogue

I voted, but I already bought a copy off of Humble.

Normally would buy a copy if it ever gets to GOG, but I am now divided about supporting GOG when they make stupid decisions like this. Of course they will use me as an example of why they didn't pick up the game in the first place. ^$#&

Seriously though, GOG, if you're pro-indie, then you need staff who know the indie scene, who Arcen Games is, and what they've contributed to that market. If you're not, then I wish you stop pretending like you were. Go back to old games if that's really what you want to do.

I'm seriously ticked off at you guys now, and now question my loyalty.

Here's the thing to remember. They're a business, and that means that their first priority is (and always has been) making money, and growing the company and its customer base. So far, over the past few years, they've been able to find a way to successfully turn a profit and grow their business by aligning their business practices with our interests as GOG's core audience.

But if they can continue to turn a sustainable profit and grow the business in a way that diverges from our interests (with an acceptable level of negative consequences), then I'm sure they'll pursue it. That's important especially now with their traditional avenues of growth (strictly DRM-free classic games) starting to dry up.

In other words, they're not "pro-indie". They're pro-profit. GOG only cares about your loyalty in as much as it keeps you buying from their store. For now at least, the community's interests have aligned with GOG's business goals and we've considered them worthy of the community's loyalty.

Regardless of the game's quality, if the all-knowing MBAs and market analysts at GOG don't think Starward Rogue is going to make them a significant amount of money, they're not going to care. And it won't matter how wrong they may actually be.
