Haven't seen this yet but read spoilers because I don't care. Sounds like it really takes a dump on Force Awakens and even the original trilogy. Makes me not really want to see it. Also reports of Marvel Studios' style humor makes me queasy. I like the Marvel movies most of the time, don't get me wrong, but that kind of snarky, quippy battle humor doesn't fit Star Wars in my opinion.

Starmaker: 1. If you're constantly photographed and recorded on video, there will be shots in which you look tired, because, you know, reread the sentence.
That's how the whole yellow press works. Get a camera that takes 10 pictures a second, hit the shutter and pick the photo where the person has the eyes half shut. They call photographers/agencies and order pictures where people look like shit.

Happened to me this year too. We were three photographers at one small event and we all had the same job: To get really bad pictures of a certain woman who was on that event. Welcome to quality journalism...

Breja: Also, there is a chance, I guess, that this trology will not end all that happily if it will in fact turn out ot be something like the prequel trilogy for the next trilogy :P
I've thought about that and the main reason I see a happy ending with IX is because we don't already have a X, XI or XII pre-known.
The reason episode III was able to end on that particular downer was because the outcome was known to all of us and more or less we knew we'd see baby Luke and Leia at the end of it.

We know this to be a trilogy so it ends here and with a victory. Next time we see Rey and the gang will be years in the future battling another enemy. Rey will have ghost chats with Luke and will be building up Jedi of her own with one perilously close to the dark side being led by a shadowy figure nobody knows about yet.
They have no other ideas I'm sure of it. And thats the thing I find most sad. Hope to be proven wrong but...

Honestly, I didn't feel like that was a problem. It really not that different in terms of humor from TFA. There was one scene that actually made me immediately think of Space Balls, but for the most part I think the humor worked ok. And I am by no means a fan of Marvel-style jokes, not even in the Marvel movies.

Fair enough. It seems to be something people differ over. I read one joke example about Luke dusting off his robes during an intense moment that sounded terrible, but I wouldn't know. I'll see the movie eventually, either in theaters or on 4k blu-ray, but the word of mouth is taking away my eagerness.

Then again I'm a Star Trek guy, so... ;)

Huh. I didn't even think of that one as a joke. It actually makes perfect sense in context of what he's doing in that scene.

I actually found the divided word of mouth encouraging. Force Awakans had almost only positive opinions, and it was a boring, bland nothing of a movie. This, at least, is somewhat interesting and I think the divided reception reflects that. It's full of flaws, I won't even argue that it's "good" (as evidenced by my long and incomplete list of complaints), but at least it's interesting. It will leave you with stuff to think about and talk about, and for me that in itself is a win. And besides, it's never a good idea to put too much stock in popular opinion.

Becasue it is funny, but it's not exactly a joke. It's more like Han's "I know" or something like that. You know, it gets a laugh, but it's nothing over the top, nothing try hard, it fits in the context.

The first time I watched the movie, the whole theater was roaring with laughter at Hux's preceding line.

The AV Club had this article yesterday at 9am:

Then 9 hours later sister site Kotaku posted:
Star Wars thinkpieces in clickbait media are horrifyingly bad. One went over the list of differences between 8 and 5, then proclaims 8 a masterpiece on account of said differences existing (er, sure? there are some? it's a different movie after all?). Another made a list of alleged plot holes, all of which are not actually plot holes (e.g. how did %%% know about ???'s plan? duh, he was around when Poe was complaining to Finn about it over the loudspeaker.) Yet another criticizes military tactics by referencing the American Civil War. why. why. i just want to read some fan theories that people wanted to have made it into the movie (on account of the spoof synopsis of A:tLA's last episode on demonoid having been awesome). Instead, I get "how did &&& survive in a vacuum! that's unrealistic!!!!!1! you're gonna instafreeze or maybe assplode!!" Sigh.
Don't mind me. I'm just linking this here:

Mark Hamill NOT happy with the new Star Wars movies VII and VIII Great Interview!

Mark Hamill Hates Star Wars The Last Jedi
An article about the issue I brought up. Though I think I agree more with the top comment than the article itself.

Really, I think I'll have to watch the movie again (though I'll wait for home release) to consider properly the light this casts on the original trilogy. Or wait for the new one to conclude and than havet he whole picture. I sure hope Luke will return as a Force ghost to give us at least a slightly happier goodbye with the character and his legacy.

pre-release, on Kylo Ren maybe being Luke
post-release, on sequels to epic narratives
post-release, on the villains

I'm pretty sure that cats can't talk and if you really hear your cat talking to you that you should take your medicine...

Maybe tinyE is jsut really strong with the Force and that way can understand animals. If there's one thing this movie teaches us is that there's a zillion Force powers we had no idea about. Plus, there were some talking force-sensitive animals in this season of Rebels, so maybe it's his cat that's actually one with the Force?
