Niggles: I probably wont be spending cash to see Episode IX when it comes out.
Like Starmaker said the way Luke and Leia were treated in this movie.... lot of this is Rian Johnson's move's (seems to be a lot of RJ fanbois out there who wax lyrical about way he directs movies blah blah... but this is star wars ffs).
Remember when Hamill posted his disagreement with way his charachter is treated in the movie?...now we know why.
I will, but I'm legit pissed about this. In ep 7, they basically rolled back Han's growth as a character - that maybe sucked, but if the writers set out to fuck up Han's life, it made sense, especially in light of the backstory as portrayed in 8.

Luke has been treated much worse - he's the blood sacrifice for the sins of the prequels. WHY? He wasn't there, wasn't even born then, he grew up on a fucking farm. (Meanwhile, the rare pepe was there and shares the blame but is still the voice of wisdom for some reason.) Obviously the prequels' legacy needs to be disinfected before it incubates and births another EU, but if you have to have a spokesperson for the prequels' worst ideas, might I suggest, ahem, THE VILLAINS?

Leia, meanwhile, exists solely for her stupidity to excuse ep 8's plotholes. Every setback the heroes suffer in the movie is due to her utter inability to command, to organize, to manage personnel. It's the totalitarian BAD GUYS who can afford to throw warm bodies into the meat grinder; the rebels need to maximize each person's usefulness. Intelligence, what's that, lol? Irreplaceable assets get sidelined, ignored, assigned shitty maintenance jobs because the mighty General Organa (pbuh) couldn't make a conscious effort to shore up weaknesses, aggressively recruit for unfilled vacancies and assemble effective teams. All she does is corny inspirational speeches, and fails even in that.

I also chose to ignore everything that has to do with the beacon, because seriously what. Look at that fucking thing. The antenna is smaller than Yoda's dick. Now consider how much energy and tech resources it takes to transmit signals where it matters for the two major plot points of the movie. Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck.

Oh! ??? says a word that's so wildly out of setting I can't even. guys. guys. you're not in kansas anymore.

Despite all this, I still think the movie is awesome. If I were a couple decades younger I'd write some Battle of Chyron Belt fanfiction. Alas, it's too late for me (but I did google if there are action figures of ???).

DaCostaBR: By the way, I love seeing the people getting all mad about some of my favorite stuff in the movie.

I wish this shitty forum allowed me to post reaction gifs
plz post. let's argue. i wanna argue

I wasn't talking to you, I was referring to people on the internet in general complaining that the movie didn't give a shit about their fantheories, and that it didn't suck the dick of the original trilogy characters.

Although if you want me to disagree with your opinion, well, a lot of characters do fuck up in this movie, yeah. Failure and learning from it is what the movie is about. That little muppet even has a speech about it and everything.

With regard to physics, I admit there was one space scene in particular that had me shaking my head.

Which one? The Leia one?

As a physicist, I do find funny how other people tend have a lot less suspension of disbelief than me in regards to movie physics.

Yeah, and I have no problem suspending disbelief which is why I didn't let it bother me. Honestly I didn't like the scene more for how it ended rather that the physics, but I don't want to get too much into it here, and now that I think about it, certain events that took place after the movie couldn't have been foreseen.
I didn't watch it but if it is anything like Episode VII then I'm probably not going to watch it. I enjoy movies like Rogue One. Not movies like Episode VII with some scavenger on a desert planet being as powerful as a Sith Lord in training and knowing the Millennium Falcon better than Han Solo and Chewbacca...

I know, I was left wondering about that, but I understand their choice to cross that bridge when they get to it in Episode 9. In the meantime, It reminds me in a way of Fast and Furious 8, a movie I admittedly haven't watched, but can respect for trying to create the happy ending that real life didn't provide.

In regards to the physics, putting all the space magic aside, I did think it looked a bit weird; but then I remembered that being in the vacuum of space there'd be no air resistance, so whatever force she managed to exert, however small, would result in constant, unimpeded acceleration, so maybe the scene is more correct than it first seems.

I think the movies crossed the line with physics when Luke made that drop at the end of Empire. :P
Fall all off what is essential is a sky scraper and manage to perfectly hit a 5 ft by 5 ft hole, while semi conscious. :P

And here I thought they crossed it with space magic.

Luke wasn't in any danger, it was all under control.

Seriously, it's not Star Trek. I love it when people try to compare them and I'm not pointing to anyone in here, for real. To their credit, that is one thing most people in this forum are good about avoiding. Fantasy and SciFi are two totally different things.

When someone asks me to choose between Star Trek and Star Wars I just say "Babylon 5".
I walked out of the theater after the Leia scene in space.

I get that a lot of people like the movie, and I will watch it at home when it gets released for home viewing, but it just screamed.... Hollywood. Plus, the kids sitting next to me were annoying the f*ck out of me by squeezing their water bottles and rustling around with plastic wrappers every chance they got.

It was not a good experience for me.
I'm not reading anything else in this thread until I see the film but I feel like whatever moratorium on spoilers that existed in this thread is probably logical to have lifted now. it's just the previous event when that happened was really abrupt and not transitioned or achieved by consensus at all.

so anyways from reading the few words of peoples' posts, it seems like spoilers are still being respected here and when you think about it, that probably doesn't make sense anymore.

so yeah, people should consider this spoiler territory now to talk freely about the film I think. just if anyone else gets burned maybe throw a warning up front in OP or in your posts.

Same thing happened when I went to see "Star Whores: A New Grope"

there was one asshole not respecting spoilers and he was doing that on purpose. He did the exact same thing two years ago for Ep 7 and unless GOG finally IP bans him (ARE YOU LISTING!?!?!) he'll be back for IX. In fact, I'm pretty sure he never saw the movie to begin with. Pretty much everything he posted he got from internet rumor.
