WOW! Talking about scammers...let's don't! They exist, they live, they can kiss my happy ass. So I got schooled by my ignorance and I tried to explain that yesterday but it seems it was used as a cautionary tale of woe! lol The reason I do not care is real simple! I learned and I had an awesome time in the thread, and I gave something away and will be doing so again. Will I be taken again? Most likely! After all, if you give of yourself, you will get used, abused etc. It is just going to happen. So, the moral of the story, the point I am making, what you have is...(drum roll)... something I like to call "LIFE"!!

Now that is cleared up, I am giving away a two fer code of action/arcade/platformer games that come from the weekend promo: Hocus Pocus, and Secret Agent. How you can win this awesome and cool two fer is simple.

IF you actually read the thread I explained how I got my handle. The first person who can explain it to me exactly wins! Good luck and may the best man/woman win!

Stilton: I agree with this absolutely. But one major problem is the liggers, scammers, parasites and abusers of other people's good will are queuing up in their salivating droves for the next whiff of something for nothing. We know they are doing this right now and that they will never go away. You only have to peruse a page or two of YouTube, that gathering place for mean-spirited morons, to see how many people are happy to insult, cajole and be generally vile to others who are simply sharing the things they like.

IAmSinistar: Exactly so. As long as a system produces something of valuable, there will be parasites who attempt to benefit from that value without contributing any of their own. The cost to them is life as a parasite. This may seem like an abstract cost, or to them not even a cost at all, but I can assure you it is a lesser existence, void of much of the meaning that true intercourse with other people brings. Sartre said that Hell is other people, but for some folks, Hell is the self.
Once again I agree. Its a crying shame these characters are too devoid of sensitivity to see what society could be like if greed and self-centredness were replaced by empathy and kindness. The sad thing for them, but moreso for us, is they never will. As long as there is temptation in front of them they will continue to chase it.

Now on to the dilemma: As some of you have probably guessed, I'm an over-the-road truck driver. This means that my internet access is through a mobile card, so I am restricted to a monthly bandwidth limit (though I have what I like to call the "big boy" plan... it's still only 10GB per month). So until I get home next (around the first of the month), I need to figure out which game or two (or three?) I want to play.

Any suggestions? :-)

1.) Arcanum: Of Steamworks and Magick Obscura (for turn-based epic RPG goodness)
2.) Theme Park (for a management sim itch)
3.) Kings Quest (for adventure itch, plus you get to have 3 games as opposed to 1 for a single install)

FYI about Arcanum: if you are the kind of person who is okay with installing fan-made patches, there is a great one out that restores much of the cut content and fixes a lot more bugs than the last official patch (see this thread here: http://www.gog.com/forum/arcanum_of_steamworks_and_magick_obscura/must_have_arcanum_fan_patches_widescreen_and_more/page1).
Ooh, thanks for the patch info, +1. And thanks for the suggestions too. :-)

Fortunately, the dilemma has an unexpected, albeit brief, solution. It is not uncommon for truck stops to have wireless internet access for a hourly/daily charge, but most of them are so painfully slow and have such spazzy connectivity issues that paying for them feels like watching one of those really (really) slow toilets flushing, hypnotically slowly spinning around.... and around... and around... and around... Unless you actually go *inside* the truck stop and plug in directly with an ethernet cable, it isn't worth it -- and I really hate doing that, since there's almost always some schmo who wants to look over your shoulder to see what you're doing, or worse, ask if they can use your laptop to check their email. *bleh*

Anyway, after a short drive today to get close to where I'm delivering tomorrow (hello to anyone in the Houston area!), I am parked at a truck stop that, through an additional service, allows me to hook-up directly through an ethernet cable out in the truck! So I can download some of these games today and bury my nose in good new excitement for the rest of the day! WOOT! :-)

I envy you being what and where you are - life on the road (not the tramp kind ;)) has always had a 'real' appeal to me, despite the fact I live in the UK which is about the size of some of the trailers you pull and can't drive anything bigger than a modestly sized lawnmower. But there's something about the simplicity of you, your truck and where you're going that I like. Its bound to have its downsides, some of which you have mentioned, but being on the move has a definite emotive pull.

Also, each game has its own forum here on GOG, so if you like applying modding / additional patching / etc. to games you acquire here and such things exist for the game in question chances are there is a sticky at the beginning of each of those forums.

Anyways, you're quite welcome! Hope you enjoy whichever game you pick! :-)

Okay, that's cool. Haven't heard of that being available. Take full advantage and gear up.

I hope I'm not too late! :) All the same, thank you for your generosity.

omegaunit: Mmm it's a minefield. I'm still sat on a bunch of codes but I'll sniper gift them whenever, there's no rush. In all cases, I don't mind folk asking if they don't mind me saying no. I'm not really worried about it. The only way to trick a code out of me is to fake charming behavior but a community full of faked charming behavior is still a community of charming behavior.
great point! you're the man~! +1!

... now what do you have for free?

JUST KIDDING!

I'm also holding a couple codes to gift, but unsure how I want to do it. I loathe to do a "whoever says me first" thing, so I'm likely to do some kind of ridiculous contest or something. ... just haven't decided what. But there's no hurry.

This is actually my second career. After getting a master's degree in math, I taught for 11 years, but I gave it up because I got tired of dealing with parents who would take no responsibility for their kids' behavior and administrators who wouldn't stand up to these same parents when they would complain about their kids' failing grades.

I've been driving a truck for about 7 1/2 years now and I love it. With the exception of the occasional "stupid people" (more on that below), this really is the least stressful job I've had in my life. I keep telling people that one day I suppose I'll have to find a real job again. :-) I'm not sure if I would enjoy it as much as a job in the UK... America certainly has its problems, but it also has miles and miles of wide-open spaces and roads going through them.

Yeah, I noticed that as I bought games during this sale, the list of forums on the left side got longer and longer. I haven't checked any of them out yet, but I definitely will!

It's actually part of the service called IdleAir. It's a unit that fits in the passenger-side window of the truck that provides, among other things, climate control for an hourly rate, so I don't have to idle the truck to keep comfortable, and the rate is about half what it would cost me in burned up diesel fuel. It also gives access to some network TV and some other things, and internet for an additional small fee. I don't use it often, mainly because it's only at a handful of truck stops nationwide, but it's a must in the deep South in the middle of summer.

As far as "stupid people": Not long ago, a firm conducted a survey of American drivers and asked them to rate their driving ability as average, above average, or below average. Over 90% of the respondents said "above average."

Well, we Americans always have been a bit proud of ourselves, haven't we? :D I have hours and hours of dash-cam footage from my truck to support my conjecture that only about 20% of American drivers know what a turn signal is and how to use it properly, just as a quick counterexample.

So I'll finish by telling you what I tell other people who tell me to "be safe": Thank you, and don't be one of those stupid people. :)

I was talking to one of those above average drivers (AAD). He was complaining about having to fight in court the multiple driving and parking violations he has amassed. Of course he had an excuse for each one which is why he is spending hundreds (thousands?) of dollars on a lawyer (who is probably paying off his student loan with AADs). He actually told me he was an excellent driver, and even though he doesn't have a license he offered to take me for a ride to prove it. 8-0

And so it's come to this...

The keaning is over and I came out of my shell.
Infected by the amazing spirit of the event I decided to participate in the generousity shown by so many.
Being really broke and unemployed I literally used my last remaing funds to buy gift codes with.
As I said previously; sleep and eating are overrated. :)
Like so many of you it seems that I've been taken advantage of by freeloaders sometimes when it came to handing out these codes.
I even refused to accept two possible trades asking in return for them to spread the love and give the games away which of course both didn't.
And to top it all off the gods of GoG didn't even seem fit to reward me with a free bee (or soup for that matter).

So as you can imagine I'm feeling really annoyed that...... this wonderful experience is over for now. :D

And the next time I will definitely not...... do anything different. :D

For I really have grown to love this community, even if you all are all a bunch of treehugging hippies.

In all honesty I am contemplating wether to trade away my last 4 codes so I can add some games to my own collection as well or give them away as planned.
I'm not really sure how to go about this as I don't have any ideas for a giveaway and these last games should get a good home.
If anyone of you has something big planned maybe hit me up and I can donate the keys that way?
Or does anyone have a nice simple idea for a giveaway? Still new to this you see.
