darthspudius: Don't pass, it's depressing but not as depressing as watch the leftist news.

Starmaker: It's basically as depressing as crippled conservatards who spout drool and hatred for social security at the same time.
Be grateful someone cleans your bedpan, you pile of biodegradable waste.
Have you read those quotes from JJ Abrams and the writers? They fucking admit to the agenda. Fairly obvious and openly admitted, unless of course you have your head stuck up your fourth point of contact.
Just watched it today, and enjoyed it quite a bit, although I enjoyed The Force Awakens too, which a lot of people here didn't seem to like.

As a Star Wars fan, I have to admit, the blatant fan service totally and unashamedly hit its mark, even as I recognised it for what it was :D.
Reiterating what others said: Grand Moff was incredible, although yeah, the Princess was a bit uncanny valley. Darth Vader was awesome.
I liked a lot of the meaningful references to the original movie, like the Rebel/Imperial commanders who would make it up the ranks later, felt some of the throwaway references were silly (the droids and walrus/handchop guys). I *LIKED* how it tied into a New Hope.

Probably have to agree the mostly uninteresting characters were the weak point. My favourite was the droid, for its usually chuckleworthy comments. I get a very strong sense of HK-47 inspiration, although characterwise they were very different.
The ending was very fitting, but I sort of saw it coming a mile away.

EDIT: Oh, a thing I noticed with the new Star Wars movies, which kinda seems odd, is them somehow "realising" that Storm Trooper armour can get dirty, and then going way overdone with that. I mean, I go through a whole bunch of movies where despite being in sandy, slimey, foresty places, Storm Trooper armour is always shiny and clean almost resistant or repellent to dirt, but now for the sake of edginess, it is regularly dirty or stained.

DaCostaBR: I really liked it. More than Force Awakens I think, and I enjoyed Force Awakens last year
Me too!
It was good, with its own story and characters, unlike ep7.
Not perfect, but finally a worthy new entry.
And the space battles.. wow!

.
avatar
DaCostaBR: It does feel a bit different from the usual Star Wars film. You don't have an opening crawl, there's no Star Wars theme either. [..]
I missed the usual intro, though.
Also, this is basically ep3.9, more than a side-story.

DaCostaBR: The characters were a mixed bag.[..]
Yeah, the new characters were OK-ish.

For me, both Jyn and Cassian had a too sudden change of mind. Nothing too terrible, luckly.
I rolled my eyes for K-2SO, but then I got fond of him lol.
The new villain was good enough, even if clearly an expendable one due to the plot.

The worst characters for me were Gerrera, who behave like a madman and suddenly become good, and that generic defector pilot.

The protectors' duo wasn't perfect, but I basically started to like the movie at the blind Jedi (Ipman!).
The force finally entered the story and some battles vs the empire begun.

DaCostaBR: Holy shit, Grand Moff Tarkin was amazing! [..] You see Leia at the end of the film with de-aging CGI and it was alright [..]
Darth Vader had a very brief appearance, but another very impressive one. [..] We see how frightning he can be to regular, non-Jedis.
I loved all the old characters appearances too, even if CGI :D

DaCostaBR: I wish it wasn't such a direct lead in to EpIV. It makes it seem more superfluous, like a 2h long intro cutscene [..]
What?
That was quite a nice surprise and made the movie less superfluous and more canon!
It connected perfectly to Ep4 :)

Also, I really liked how they managed to justify the Death Star's silly weak point in ep4 (let's ignore ep6 lol).

----

Some minor complaints:

- Stormtroopers armor is still useless lol.
- that truth-monster scene was quite pointless.
- in the games, the rebel spaceships (Xwings, etc) have shields that can last various hits, but they're basically never used in the movies.
- again in the games, Star Destroyers are way more tough and intimidating (heavy shields, many turbolasers, anti-aircraft bombs, homing torpedos, various fighter squadrons).
- moving a Star Destroyer with a single Corvette? 3 or 4 would have been more believable.
- why didn't the rebel fleet directly attack the orbital base? It was clear that it was shielding the planet.
- was that huge archive so useless that could be destroyed without problems? I wish they had justified its loss with something (e.g: old copy, all the info was transferred on the DS)

----

Check this comment by some user:

- Leia: "I'm a member of the Empirial Senate on a diplomatic mission to Alderaan."
- Vader: "Please, I saw you leave the Battle like 10 minutes ago."

Oh lol, I forgot about that XD

It is, indeed, the first good Star Wars movie since 1983, which in itself is a big deal. It's not a masterpiece, it didn't blow my mind, it's not as good as the original trilogy. But it is a good movie. I have no major problems with it, it knows what it wants to be and does everything it needed to quite well. The visuals are good, though there's nothing particualrly inventive or memorable. The action is good, the characters and actors good, likeable and for an ensable movie made mostly quite memorable in the relatively short time they were given. I liked them all much more than Rey or Finn.

The more gritty, serious feel of the movie is a welcome breath of fresh air among all the jokey, one-liner filled Marvel movies and other Deadpools of the recent years. A movie that isn't afraid to take itself seriously, that isn't trying to turn everything into a joke to be repeated a million times on twitter? And as a part of a major Disney franchise? That's a miracle.

What holds back the movie from being something even more is mostly the fact that the story is very predictable. You can tell what's going to happen next pretty much the whole time. It's not justt he fact that it's an immediate prequel to Episode IV, it's more like everything feels telegraphed from a mile away. And there are some pacing issues. Sometimes the movie feels like it drags, like someone should kick it in the arse to move along. It's not a major problem, but I think it could have been a bit shorter, for it's own good.

Now on to the spoilers

Spoiler
The fact that all the main characters die is quite the brave choice, and the right one.

I knew Tarkin was going to appear, but I didn't expect as much of him, and it really was impressive how well it was done. Yes, at times the CG shows, but it's still pretty damn good, especially if we remember the horror of the CG Jeff Bridges in TRON Legacy. They've a come a long way since then. And whoever voiced him did a pretty good job. The scenes with Tarkin were among my favourites (he was always my favourite villain in Star Wars). Strangely enough, the short shot of young Leia at the end was much worse, very uncanny valley.

The big space/ground battle might just be the best one in Star Wars yet. It has big scope, but doesn't feel like just superflous, overstuffed CG fest we got in Revenge of the Sith.

I also liked a lot how the movie ties in directly to Episode IV at the end. You could play the movies back to back and it would feel perfectly natural, the one just becomes the other.
I like the movie, although it does not have the Star Wars feeling in my opinion, the telling of an epic story where the story is more important than the action.

The only thing that really bugged me, you see a handful of X-Wings, a handful of rebel capitals, you see a hanful of rebels deployed on the ground, basically they would all have been eradicated after half of the final attack, when you consider how many died and how many ships got destroyed oO.

I don't like the movie, I love it. :) Maybe it could have been 10 minutes longer to deepen some characters a bit more: the blind jedi monk and his "guard" (don't remember their names), father Erso, the saviour of jyn erso (the sick leader on Jedha(?)) but maybe it's only the cut and there's something left for a Director's Cut-version...

I really like the tone, the atmosphere and the absence of any childishness - it's no family movie and I deeply appreciate that. I had goosebumps a couple times in the cinema - to me Star Wars is back. (Didn't watch Ep 7)

Oh and the droid K-something is such a lovely bastard harhar!

Since when these wearable toilet seats aka Stormtrooper armors resist anything at all? ;-)

There's a whole different movie we'll never see left for that :D
Rogue One is decent, slightly better than The Farce Awakens but not as great as the old Star Wars movies.

I could watch Episode 4 - 6 again and again but after seeing it once i don't think i will ever watch Rogue One again. It's focused too much on action IMO.

NAY! :-(
I liked it....

Thats it ive said it,truth i didnt think i would like it no idea why just thought i woudnt....

For me the action sequence on the planet towards the end was a bit to long. seemed they tried to fit all the bits left over in..

But the very last 10 mins were great!!! :)

The only part that really get on my wick is all the pople saying "oh wow but what about this easter egg etc etc etc" FFS it isnt an easter egg if its in plain sight!!! :)

Oh, that thing. If anything it only served to make me lose some respect for them. Not because of what they said, but because of how damn childish they're acting.

They make a review, people give their opposing opinions on the comments (and frankly, some of what they said was just bullshit). Instead of letting it end there they get their panties in a twist and have to shit out a Plinkett video real fast to reiterate the exact same points and try to discredit the criticism they got, people disagreed on the comments, because of course they did, and they make another video with the same points again to argue agaisnt those comments. Where will it end?

I expect better behaviour from content producers than what I see from the regular argumentative troll on a forum. Then again I shouldn't be surprised, not when the first Plinkett video they make in several years is about the Force Awakens, yet 2/3 of the video is just them complaining that they didn't have the final say on the prequels.
I'm just happy to see a proper villain in Star Wars again rather than the crybabies from 3 and 7... Darth Vader was finally scary again.
I still haven't seen this damn thing because of all the snow. :P
