Wouldn't CD Projekt RED need to be separated from the CD Projekt Group in order for this to be possible in the first place?

I'd hope that if this does happen: Sony would let CDPR do its thing and also keep GOG going.
And Sony would still have CDPR games hit Playstation and GOG at the same time.
Heck, Sony could probably get more games to join GOG, if they get everything from CDP - i.e. CDPR and their parent company.

If this happens - Sony would definitely try to keep Cyberpunk and Witcher stuff away from Xbox console platform, I'd guess.

If this even more unlikely wholesale buyout of the CD Projekt Group, including GOG were to happen, this would also mean the end of GOG as we know it.
DRM-free means nothing to Sony, so that's the first thing that would be scrapped. And without the last remaining main pillar upon which GOG was originally built on, the whole thing would collapse like a house of cards.

Besides DRM-free, GOG barely eke out a profit, so I wonder if Sony - given their billions - would consider the juice not worth the squeeze.

In any case, yet another good reason to have one's installers backed up, just in case.

Sony can't buy CDPR in bulk, since it's a publicly traded company, which, if I recall correctly, has been at risk of hostile takeovers before and has taken provisions against that.

Even if let's say some of the shareholders would be interested to sell out, convincing a large majority to do so would be quite something. Ergo, I don't see it happening. Most likely it's just the rumor mill churning away, perhaps based on what Sony would like to do (not what it can do).

If they really want to focus on the PC (which I don't believe, their word is not worth more than Microsoft's) and if Sony would not go the 'DRM on everything' route on the PC, then buying CDPR/GOG might not be a bad idea after all for them. They would have a already working distribution network and if they keep the shop as it is also a broad pallette of games from the start. What GOG misses mostly, is manpower. They have by far not enough people to sustain everything they are doing.

But honestly I don't think that Sony will do it. They will more likely come up with their own distribution platform.

Still the best AC games to me are AC2 and AC Brotherhood.

SONY still needs a launcher because I heard they were trying to have their Playstation exclusives and stuff on their own launcher.... This would probably be their launch platform if they went through with it
