That would be amazing.
KOAR, Mass Effect series, the rest of the Dragon Age games, The Sims, Mercenaries 2:WiF, Alice: Madness Returns and so many more EA games I'd love to see on gog. It will take time but I'm sure we'll get a couple more EA titles in the next months.

snowkatt: does EA own the rights to that ?
avatar
Niggles: Vaguely remember Rhode Island actually owns the IP rights since the original studio went bankrupt at some stage?

(and for the record i loved the game itself even if it was too easy.....seem to recall a mod fixed that, as well as another which made the game a bit more colorful....)
In a movie that would be comedy gold. Its wikipedia fist lists all the reasons why I never considered getting that game (singleplayer game with Online DRM, weird DLC behaviour at day one) continues with a quote from some Rhode Island official that the game had not sold enough units (doh!, guess why doofus) and for the punchline apparently (if at all) only sell it within walled garden shops.

not only that but rhode island forked over 75 million loan to the studio

neurasthenya: Feck, you're right, reading some stuff, I think the state of Rhode Island owns the IP now. :/
considering they greenlighted a 75 million dollar loan for it

I remember being so hyped about this game and the mmo they were working on. I did really enjoy Kingdoms of Amalur. i thought the combat was great and the visuals were gorgeous but the npc's and storyline needed some work to be a bit more memorable. For a developers first title though it rocked. Too bad the company mis managed money because I really wanted to see what the mmo would be like.

Cheers for that info. Im curious how much the IP would be worth now ,i assume someone would have to cough up to pay that loan off plus interest etc alone even before negotiating....
avatar
neurasthenya: C'mon EA, you know you want it. (And I do it too).
So when?

WHEN GODDAMNIT?

Pls.
Hopefully, soon! I always thought the whole debacle with 38 Studios overshadowed the fact that KOE: Reckoning was actually a good game (not a train wreck like 38 Studios).

and somehow shilling managed to negotiate paying back "only" 2,5 million
so that leaves the rhode island tax payer with 74 million down the tubes

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/38_Studios

>>An investigation by the Rhode Island State Police did not come up with sufficient evidence thus preventing the studio being indicted with criminal charges. However, civil litigation continued,[34] ultimately leading to a settlement in 2016 with Shilling and other executives agreed to pay back $2.5 million.[35] This settlement leaves the state of Rhode Island owing $28.2 million on the bonds.<<

and i dont think EA or any other company is interested in forking over 28 million to ressurect the IP
they could and i have heard of stranger things happening
but i dont think they will

the game is still for sale on steam so a deal was obviously brokered the real question is for how long ?
and whent he contract expires will Ea be arsed to extend it ?

big huge games cant help because they went under with team 38

were revived in 2014 after buying the rights back from rhode island
and are currently owned by nexon
I bought and played Kingdoms of Amalur a couple of years ago. It was a lot of fun despite a few rough edges. I would definitely like to see it appear on GOG or get re-released for Xbox One and PS4.

I remember people bashing it before it came out just because it was published by EA. Just because you hate the publisher does not mean that the product is automatically bad and while I understand there are legitimate complaints about EA leadership or at least legitimate at the time being, there have been tons of complaints that are simply mindless and make the people who make legitimate ones look bad.
I cast a vote for this game.
Maybe a dumb question: Is it similar to Shadows of Mordor?

It is not.
Imagine an MMO with the same boring quests and walking distances but without other players.
Combat was fun though.

Oh, I never heard about Big Huge Games being revived. I am glad to hear that. But about the publishing rights for KOE: Reckoning, I thought EA owns the full publishing rights, but the state of Rhode Island owns the IP. So EA couldn't publish a sequel, but they can continue to sell Reckoning indefinitely, right?

pretty much
unless rhode island decides to renegotiate the deal or sell the ip

i doubt the game actually made its investment back though
or that any publisher wants to fork over 28 million for it
no new ?
