BKGaming: I think giving the MS Store more than a few thousand would be generous...

Then you ignore the source. No need to continue talking about it. GOG has the numbers, any real evidence would have to come from them.
avatar
kohlrak: so, there's no real evidence. Gotcha.
Then I guess GOG is actually a way bigger market than Steam... I mean all we really have it Valves numbers to go buy. No real evidence. Everybody and everywhere... they are all fudging the numbers. xD

I'm just saying, if you're willing to take the word of someone who's got a lot to gain from playing with the numbers, you're asking for trouble.

Btw, my Rockrace project on my website got more download than The Witcher 3's Blood and Wine DLC. Total shocker, right there. And if you buy that, i have a bridge to sell you as well. You can make up the losses in a week with tolls, but I can't manage it anymore. I figure anyone who can pay me for it has enough money to fix it up and use it proper.

BKGaming: I think giving the MS Store more than a few thousand would be generous...

JMich: MS Store also counts for XBoxOne players. Giving XBox a few thousand seems too little.
Yes but you said around 200,000 total... so that would mean you are claiming 50,000 for Xbox and 50,000 for the MS Store. I think we can say that most pc gamers aren't playing on the MS Store, which is almost universally hated.

Just saying... but I get why you are doing it that way because of cross play they can potentially play on the MS Store. But I think decreasing the MS Store and increasing Xbox, PS4 and Galaxy would be accurate to the overall numbers.

I think we can say that most gog users aren't playing using gog galaxy, which is almost universally hated.

ah, yes, let's play with the numbers, shall we?

You can't play Gwent without Galaxy... so not possible.

Yeah, but do the majority of gog users play gwent? Common, man.

The wish for a "Steam like client" has a bit over 5K votes. Feel free to remove as many (or as little) as you like due to wishlist merging issues, then go with the number of people in the forum that dislike Galaxy. Galaxy is not universally hated, there are people that like it, people that don't like it and people that ignore it.

You can. Use any of the other methods I said in my numbers post.

How many people hate galaxy but don't post in the forums? It's not like we're all here. How many straight up left gog over galaxy, especially not immediately figuring out there's "classic installers"? We don't know. Not even gog could know that.

I'm not going to find the info for you, but I do remember Gwent making up a significant portion of GOG total reported revenue last year... so it's possible close to a majority (or a very significant amount) do.

That's not counting Galaxy users who don't play Gwent...
avatar
kohlrak: How many people hate galaxy but don't post in the forums?
No idea. I guess GOG does have the number for "people who buy games but don't log in to Galaxy" but that number would also include people that don't care about Galaxy and people who want Galaxy but run Linux.

avatar
kohlrak: It's not like we're all here.
Yes. Exactly. The forum is a minority of the users, and the vocal users (both for and against anything) are a minority of the forum users. So using the forum to judge the popularity of a thing on GOG is futile, at least without some more data.

kohlrak: How many straight up left gog over galaxy, especially not immediately figuring out there's "classic installers"? We don't know. Not even gog could know that.
No idea. I guess there are a few, but don't recall more than a handful forum posts about leaving due to galaxy installers (though quite a few threatened to leave if those were made mandatory). GOG could have a better estimate, since people do like to voice their frustrations through support tickets. And they should also have the number of accounts that stopped buying after the galaxy installers appeared and haven't bought anything since, though whether that's due to the installers or something else would still be up in the air.

P.S.Let's also remember that there are people who like Galaxy and post about it in other places, like Reddit. I also seem to recall a PCGamer (or was it RPS?) article about why Galaxy is great.

I'd love to see those numbers. With all the dumb games and shovelware out there, you'd have to be a witcher fan to take it seriously at all, and even then you'd probably see it for what it is. If it made a good chunk of sales, then those booster packs or whatever they sell on it attract some hardcore suckers.

So what about the number of people who used galaxy once or twice but didn't like it? I actually tried it once. Am i included in the list of users? And if someone accidentally installed galaxy through the non-classic installer defaults? Do they count as galaxy fanboys, too?

True. It could be that galaxy users are more likely to use the forums (fanboy thing), or it could be that disgruntled people are more likely to use the forums to complain. It's really a tossup, and, given how much gog stands to gain or loose from how the numbers look, I really don't think they can be trusted with them. Unless of course you're willing to buy that my rockrace game is outselling TW3 DLC.

But are these at all counted? I'm betting not. Even if so, GOG knows that most people who threaten to leave won't when the rubber hits the road, so they'd take a chance on it. Heck, if i was in gog's' shoes i probably would, too.

Here's the statement (page 29). Will also look for the specific numbers, but I guess waiting for the H22017 report would be better.

Fanboys? No, certainly not. Users? Possible. Depends on what was the last Galaxy version they used. I assume that if they haven't used it for at least a major version, they should no longer be counted as Galaxy users, but I don't do the data analysis for GOG.

Sure thing. Give me a financial report that you would give to the SEC, with all the penalties and liabilities that would have for you if you misrepresented yourself, and I would try to verify your numbers. Should those numbers hold up, I would go asking people why they haven't done a proper covering of rockrace.

Counted as what? As potential lost customers if they decide to go down a road? Yes, they are counted. GOG does have a better understanding of what is happening, because they do have access to all of their feedback channels. We don't know what people write to support about (other than those who think posting their support tickets on the forums is the proper way to do it), we don't know what's in the twitter DMs, we don't know what messages they get on Facebook, nor the content of any other social media GOG is active on. So again, going only by what's happening in the forum is like assuming the loud discussion in a specific bar represents the mood for a whole country.

I remeber this was posted by The-Business but it's only for the first part of 2017:

What's weird is, it says "in PLN million" which would mean gwent pulled in about 100,000,000,000 PLN, or $29,887,453,273. I'm sorry, but GOG's revenue can't be higher than the country's GDP, which is 469.5 billion USD, which, to make matters worse, isn't even the whole year from what I can tell. But, if we drop the million to be realistic they made 29,897.33USD off gwent. Ouch. And if that's gog's top sale, which actually is realistic, gog's way smaller potatos than we like to admit. Maybe you can explain to me how the prices work for gwent, seeing as i'm not playing it? If everyone's paying a dollar, these numbers are really sad.

Fat chance. GOG's clearly way too deeply invested in galaxy, just from skimming over this PDF file you're showing me. I can't imagine them being overly honest about it if it's not doing well. They're going to do everything under the sun to make this look good to investors, even if it's doing well.

You know, I could just copy this report here and inject rock race in instead, right? How are you going to verify that I actually filed it?

I wouldn't mind going to a bar to get an opinion. Bars are pretty popular, and drunks are pretty open about how they feel. I'd probably sample a few different bars in a few different areas, but I would, none-the-less. That said, most feedback channels just never get used, no matter how many you have. Most people buy what they want and leave when they're unhappy, not leaving a word otherwise. So, the wise thing for gog to do is try to use what it does have as samples of the larger population. Given gog still bothers with the forums, despite the state in which they are, i'm willing to bet it considers the forums to be a good chunk of feedback.
