fortune_p_dawg: yes! i like smoking it on saturday nights after everyone goes to bed and right before a boot up a decent rpg. mine is glass and i fill it with grass.
avatar
tinyE: What do you play stoned? XD I tried that once. The game was waaaaay too fast for me. I can only imagine what would have happened had I gone past the title screen.
i love old school graphic adventures while i burn; the puzzles just come together so smoothly. a couple of weeks ago the family went out of town (to see my in-laws) and i played through the entirety of the blackwell games, sam & max, and richard and alice in one weekend (fucking excellent games by the way).

i've been slowly working my way through grimrock 2, but i seem to die a lot while stoned, though the grass seems to really enhance the atmosphere.

I find the concept of setting something on fire and then intentionally breathing the resulting burning smoke into my lungs to be... of incomprehensible benefit.

"But it's relaxing!"

Yeah, so is taking a nap, and I don't have to do irreparable fire damage to my internal organs.

"But check it out dude... it's weeeeeed... you can get soooooo high..."

Fantastic. Check please.

To each his own. The thread isn't about weed, though. It just took that unavoidable turn.
I smoked a briar pipe years a ago. I always preferred Dutch Tobacco like Amphora.

Corn cobbs were a must for trying new flavours. I didn't much care for clay pipes.

I am glad sunshinecorp explained, because when I read your post, I truly had no idea what you were talking about.
Now i know what gift to make to my tinyE dearest. I will get him a pipe to smoke for me... Damn, now i am hard again!

Good for you, most people do unhealthy things or have bad habits. Smoking, chewing, drugs, alcohol, unhealthy food, lack of exercise, drink too much soda or coffee, eat too much spicy foods... whatever it may be. Unless you're an absolute health nut.

I have very bad anxiety, can't exactly take a nap when it feels like my world is falling apart. If that happens when I'm out and about I step outside and smoke because it does calm my nerves a bit. It also forces me to talk to other people smoking which can help get my mind away from the meltdown it created.

As for smoking a pipe, I tried it a long time ago, and it was mostly enjoyable. I was a lot younger and a more heavy marijuana smoker instead of tobacco so I just preferred a bong or a bowl. Nowadays I flipped it around and enjoy tobacco more so maybe I should consider a pipe again?

It is quite relaxing, you have the whole ritual of knocking the pipe against the sole of your shoe and packing in fresh smoke, lighting it carefully etc. Just get a decent pipe like a briar and avoid the gimmicky calabash.

I found it to be very enjoyable albeit time consuming when compared to ciggys (though I rolled my own then as well).

budejovice: I smoke pipes a lot, but we're not talking about the same thing. I prefer aluminum. Because I'm freakin' old school.

My dad smoked a (what you're talking about) pipe for many years. He is a forensic chemist; they went hand-in-hand. :)
avatar
drealmer7: omg dude, please, do research+read studies on heating+inhaling aluminum! It's VERY bad for you on multiple levels (lung and brain.)

use glass!
TBH, by the time you're smoking the crap in the pipe the materials that the pipe is made from doesn't make much difference.

That being said, aluminum is terrible for you. There's a reason why aluminum cans are typically coated with plastic these days.

I would like to point out that aluminum is the third most abundant element in the earth's crust and that aluminum is found in a huge amount of consumer products, including cosmetics and baking powder, and non-consumer products like water and that everyone who ever lived consumed measurable amounts of aluminum everyday.

Breathe deep people. Don't panic. The world is out to get you and the world will win.

sunshinecorp: After an eight-year break, I'm back to smoking a pipe. I decided to go for a Missouri Meerschaum corn cob pipe after reading so much good stuff about 'em. I got the Legend, with a flat bowl and a straight stem. Now, I've only smoked briar pipes before, so this is my first time with a corn cob, and let me tell you, I love it. I got myself some Virginia tobacco and some Green River tobacco, locally grown, and made a 1:1 blend. It's excellent.

So... any fellow pipe enthusiasts?
I recently started smoking a pipe. I got the exact same pipe as yours.

And here I thought I was trending something new. Everyone's vaping these days, they said. Want to be original? Smoke a pipe, they said.

Very relaxing. Also a bit more time consuming. Scrape out the screens, clean the nozzle and pipe, load the pipe carefully and don't pack too hard. Yes, we smokers love those rituals.

That's the idea.

It's also a known neurotoxin that should be kept to a minimum whenever possible. It shouldn't be in baking powder, you shouldn't be ingesting any baking powder that isn't aluminum free.

It's a cumulative effect, you have to keep the sources of aluminum you choose to ingest to a minimum because there's aluminum in other areas that you can't easily avoid.

Until you get emphysema and are lucky to be able to breathe shallowly.
