So I just noticed this on Steam. A remaster of the original SiN by Nightdive Studios, coming this year. Looks pretty good.

Cool, thanks for the heads-up. Hopefully it shows up here; Nightdive have been pretty good overall, though they may decide having to deal with Galaxy integration (for the PvP) isn't worth it. Wish we could get SiN Emergence too.
Someone brought this up here last year, I stand by my original thoughts at that time, as long as they keep their "Restored/uncensored original game assets" promise it should be pretty good.

They already delivered with the latest patch the original SiN Gold recieved back in March 2020. If I remember right only the Steam version had censored game assets while the GOG version was always uncensored so for us that patch mostly added general improvements and bugfixes. So since they already delivered back then I don't see any reason why it shouldn't be the same for this Reloaded version in the future. Compared to what you sometimes get in modern games these days the uncensored content in this one isn't even shocking anymore.

From what I recall all they censored in the first place was just some easter eggs in posters and sign boards, the Elexis hot tube secret and shooting bits off and exposing the hostages in the opening level.

There is something really dodgy going on between Nightdive and GoG. In spite of all the work GoG did unblocking the IP rights for Blade Runner, there is no confirmation that the remaster will come to GoG, their Social media has even gone as far to deny GoG's work had any influence on them obtaining the rights for the remaster.

The Blade Runner remaster is indefinitely delayed:

As for the IP, from the stories that Night Dive and GOG told, I assumed that they each just approached the Blade Runner Partnership independently at different times, the BRP used to be quite tight-lipped and hard to get a hold of so it wouldn't surprise me if they didn't tell either party about the other's deal.

Wonder if it'll be available here in Germany, since I still can't buy the original on GOG for censorship (I mean nonsensical) reasons

You can buy it if you give the money to a friend and they send you a gift code for the game(or if you otherwise get gifted a copy)....or if you "temporarily move to another country".

If it gets re-examined by the USK, it is extremely unlikely that it will get banned (or rather, indexed) again, they might even lift the ban on the original. Most titles that are still on the index are there for the sole reason that the publisher would have to pay for a re-examination, and the games are not relevant enough any more to justify that. In any case, after 25 years they get re-examined (by the BpjM, which is responsible for the index) automatically and that means another two and a half years for this 1998 title.

If it's done the same way things went with e.g. Blood: Fresh Supply then the original version will be added to the Goodies of SiN: Reloaded once it is available and you'll have access to it no matter if it's still on the "Not allowed in Germany" list.

If only countries allowed consenting adults to play what they wanted to play....one can dream, eh?
(the us has it's own system, of course, but thankfully it doesn't bar adults from playing what they want)

Ah that makes some more sense

We're getting there... It's nowhere near as bad as it was back in the 90s. We can even have Nazis and Swastikas in games now! :D Most games that are still banned just haven't been re-examined yet, like SiN.

Good to hear. :)

And yeah, it all stems from the shaky theory of "if people see it in media, they'll probably do it". It reminds me of the people saying playing D&D/reading Harry Potter/listening to rock music/having fun on Halloween would turn people into devil worshippers, and that GTA and etc would probably make people into criminals. When will they learn, I wonder?
