yesterday i started to play the ps3 exclusive game uncharted (2007), where the player is kind of a tomb raider. but male. already at the beginning you come across a german nazi submarine ruin in the jungle. here are 2 pics to get a better understanding: 1 2.

wtf, seriously! how and why should that submarine be there, that just destroys the serious atmosphere of the game. which was created before. clearly the devs, who are praised for their great games, didn't do much during the development. as otherwise they just would see how stupid it is to place that submarine into the jungle.

video games are full of unreliasm, but it mostly is intended and essential for the game itself. like sorcery and dragons in tes games. but this is one example which shouldn't be in that game at all and its not a bug. so aside from theories about a submarine appearance in the jungle, do you remember similar cases in other games?

Asking why that would be there, is like asking why wouldn't you piss on people on postal 2. :P Why not? :P

Personally, I have a real problem with silent protagonists, specially on JRPGs. Main case being Chrno Trigger, I know it's supposed to be a masterpiece and whatnot but I can't get over the silent protagonist thing. People talking to the main character and acting like he replied is something that gets on my nerves a lot.

Out of bounds submarine from Silent Hunter 3. That game was pretty buggy.

Your expectations are very off, that submarine is far from being the least realistic thing in the game and very much fits the overall style. Plus from what I recall the game actually acknowledges the submarine to be an uncommon thing, that basically makes it okay in my book.

I can't say things like that bothers me, it's so rare that something appears that completely takes me out of suspension of disbelief. That said, I can't stand invisible walls. The main reason is not realism but the fact that I have expectations of possible discoveries that then are turned into disappointments.

On JRPGs, I hardly ever identify the main character as "mine". He's just one more character, and seem him mute bothers me.

Matter of taste I guess.

This is no shit, and I'm not talking about that scene from "Close Encounters..."

Turns out they were anchored on a small inland sea that suddenly dried up a few decades ago virtually over night leaving the damn things just sitting in the desert. :P

for me its not about the ability to reply during a conversation, which is nice as long you only read the reply but don't hear any voice. i don't like to hear any voices from my own character. just play indiana jones emperors tomb and you'll quickly learn to enjoy quite chracters.
