Fairfox: Hand of Fate was a game I wanted, DRM-free, being into that kind of 'choose your own adventure' style fare from childhood up. But the painfully slow updates on GOG, contrasted by the super-zippy Steam offerings, killed any buzz I had for it. The DLC took forever to materalise, and the developers, Defiant Development, never did offer the music as a downloadable extra (paid or no), despite the fact it would have been a bunch of mp3s (or flac. One can dream) in a zip file. A zip file.

Marioface5: It seems that The Escapists also suffers from this.
I'm tired of buying games on here and then feeling like I wasted my money supporting a developer/publisher that treats us like second-class customers.
Welcome to the club!

I hope you guys are okay with me quoting you on that, since I have no first-hand experience with either game. Please let me know if you aren't!

jamotide: Maybe the game had not a single sale, so no need to update :D
I bought it! And I actually re-installed and tried it again some weeks ago, played it a bit.

Besides the new levels, what is missing in the GOG version? I recall when i tried the game the first time one or two years ago (don't recall which), I found some note on a tree which apparently lead to some secret mission or level in the game, which was apparently missing in the GOG version. Not sure if that has been added or fixed then, apparently not.

Has GOG said anything about the status? E.g. has GOG just forgotten to remind the developer to patch it up, or has the developer outright declined further support for the GOG version? Is the developer still around to patch the game up?

From my memory:

Deadly Premonition: Was it so that GOG version is missing some final patch, which isn't that necessary though? At least it seems to have received some update(s) since I tried it earlier, because now the GOG version seems to support the XBox360 gamepad properly (earlier it was unplayable with a gamepad IIRC, but fine on mouse+keyboard). And that the publisher has stated the developer team is already abolished, so no more updates to be expected to either the GOG nor other versions?

Rise of the Triad: Was it so that the publisher flat-out said they will support only the Steam version from now on? Not sure if the GOG version is missing any important fixes, at least the GOG version feels fully playable the last time I tried it.

In a way, I feel if the publisher makes the decision not to support the GOG version anymore, then they should pull it from the GOG store themselves. Like happened with ARMA2 I guess. At least then it is clear where the publisher stands regarding the GOG version, and they aren't pretending to support it anymore.

Deadly Premonition received the latest update here, but silently.

Rise of the Triad (2013) is the latest version here and was reworked so it can use Galaxy for online multiplayer and to support cross-play with the Steam version.
For me Sam & Max Save the World and Luftrausers are the biggest offenders to be honest. No updates is bad, but broken games that are fixed elsewhere is just disgusting. And don't get me started on Omerta: City of Gangsters...

Grargar: ...
Wow, thanks for the info! That's why they were missing from that second-class citizen list... Glad to know they are up to date, those two were a bit of a bummer to me, but now I feel happy snappy. If only Slender would receive a similar treatment...

Some games on the list are meh to me. I don't care if some game is missing Steam-exclusive multiplayer as long as it is clearly stated on the store page (like Brutal Legend, I rather have it on GOG without multiplayer, than not having it at all), or some games with missing extra soundtrack. YMMV.

Cool, I had just been thinking that there should be a GOGmix for this.

Luftrausers is broken on Steam, too. It crashes when you exit the game and the dev hasn't even touched the game (according to SteamDB) in a long time.

Well, here it has a bug that prevents you from finishing the game. Not quite the same...

Yeah well, getting one's panties in a knot over gamergate is a full-time job for ol' Rami. Can't waste time on something as mundane fixing your game when there is a war to be fought on Twitter.

Luftrausers has an ending? The little I played it, I thought it is some kind of remake of Sopwith... :)

You're supposed to be able to proceed through the game, but due to the way score ramps up your rank and increases difficulty, some objectives become outright impossible because the goalposts end up so lofty.

And all this time I thought I was just really bad at the game.

Oh, it was pretty frustrating. I got rid of all goals that weren't blocked by the blimp, and then it turns out you need a score so damningly high to even summon it that the screen is filled with more bullets and enemies than a bullet hell game. Due to the way that most planes are made of cardstock, you don't really stand enough of a chance to progress.

Well, if you buy it on GOG, it doesn't... ;)
