Not exactly shame, but i do have a bit of a gardening approach to my shelves, virtual or not, games, books, films or music. And i sometimes own misleading things that i don't endorse. I like to be able to defend what i have, or to have it say something about me. So i'm very happy to own "attack of the crab monsters" but i'm embarrassed to own "suddenly" or "the cell", which are just bland bad movies that i fail to 'appropriate'. I can have very cheesy comic books that i loved as a kid and that are just cringeworthy to my eyes now, and it's fun, but some comic books that were truly a mistake to buy (like some post-goscinny asterix or lucky luke) are just... how can i say... i don't want people to assume i found something good in them, because it would be a false assumption, about me but even more about them. They are shit.

So, games. Yeah, i shove aside some freebies that i can't vouch for, a couple of games i bought for someone else (pinballs), and maybe games that didn't deserve to be bought (smugglers V). But it's more about sorting the 'real stuff' from the 'fluff'. I don't like being associated with stuff i dislike.

But when i do enjoy embarrassing stuff, it's generally a joy to be called out on it. Genuine soft spot for ridiculous stuff make for funny conversations.
This is only slightly related, but apart from a few exceptions, my close friends aren't into gaming. Consequently, I've kept my lifelong addiction to PC games a secret from them. I know it's very silly, but given the stigma surrounding such an "unproductive, basement-dwelling" hobby, I'd rather keep it to myself. I'm much more open and honest about it amongst my online friends, though.
Closest I can relate to that was when I was little and our neighbour, who was the go-to-guy for computer related stuff, agreed to put a bunch of games on my 486. It came in the form of a dos folder with a bunch of install folders for several games. So I suppose that would've made 10 year old me a filthy pirate :P
In any case, I got a glance of the folder with all the games before it was copied onto my harddrive, and I noticed a folder called 'Larry'. I heard tell of the Leisure Suit Larry games somewhere, and vaguely understood that they were naughty, so I was pretty excited to check it out. But unfortunately when I got home to open the games folder I realized that he'd copied everything, except for the 'Larry' folder :(

or do you just liek naht kno anyone
Both.
I am rarely ashamed of anything - I am what I am and how I am. I am pretty sure that I will never care about what others would say about the games I play or own.

I have 3 Onechanbara games. The way people react to that makes me think Im supposed to feel ashamed. I don't though. Not even a little bit.

Yes, we know Popeye here as well (it's one way for parents to get children to eat their spinach ;)).
R18 games are quite common at my area.
We would not talk about it to wife or girl friends.
But discussion among male friends are nothing special.

I once got some crap about the hobby and its expenses from a sister-in-law. In response I asked her how much time and money her husband spends on playing pool, traveling for tournaments (that he won't win), etc. Both playing games, but one is acceptable and the other not, apparently.

In my library, I'm not ashamed of any games. Might be some questionable music albums, however. ; ) Reminds me, wife just picked up a Wham! LP Saturday. Told her she's wasting her money since it's not going on my turntable.
