I accidentally closed the browser tab I was browsing the Lunar Sale on, and had to start "all over again". But it's really easy to get back to the page you were on (if you remembered it). If you look at the URL at the top of your browser window, usually starts with "https://www.gog.com...." you'll notice the end of the URL will say something like "page=1". Just change the "1" to whatever page number you want and hit Enter, and you'll be whisked to that page.

Cough cough .... you need to think it through, what I said.

If the number of pages change from 38 to 21, then Page 18 etc that you were at, is no longer Page 18.

You must also consider, that games were removed from probably every one of those 38 pages, and who knows, maybe even the order of them changed, based on some algorithm we are not aware of.

So I had no choice, but to start all over again from the start ... Page 1 .... just to be sure.

Be a different story, if I had still realized there was 38 sale pages, as it now seems clear there was. I could have done exactly like you said and just gone back to whatever page I was on ... or close enough, if I didn't recall the number ... though if I really wanted to find it out, there is always the browser history.

They almost do that with each individual collective sale's page.

Or you could also just remember the page you're on atm/last game you looked at and check that page again & the one before and after it if need be to find where you last left off, maybe? :)

I meant(if you didn't get what it meant) one should remember the page they were on and what game in that list(while browsing sales pages) and then if one had to go back to it they could go back to that page and search for the game they left off on to continue from there.....just a suggestion, is all.

Usually when people have problems others try to reply with solutions, and they often try to do it/should do it in the simplest terms so as top not confuse the one having the problem. :)

Yes, but I had already explained why it was probably or possibly not that simple.
When 38 pages change to 21 and you don't know the algorithm rules (if any), who can rely on just paging quickly back to the game in question, and continuing on from there. And honestly, loading each sales page and checking for the game is not often a quick endeavor anyway, if it is many pages in ... you load, wait and scroll ... quite slow on my PC, and that is with the fastest browser I could find.

The only thing you are doing, if you take for granted the ordering is still the same and no new games added meanwhile, is not visiting the game pages of games listed, until you get to the Sales page that has the game you were at, listed.

Yes, but unfortunately in that regard, I like all genres.

And don't get me started on bloat and unnecessary crap built into web pages these days, that mean they take an age to load and soak up the memory.

As much as I love GOG, they have done me no favors with their main page, which takes forever to finish loading.
I'd like to see them buck the usual trend and have quick loading main, sales and game pages.
Gawd, even Steam is usually quicker for me, and certainly Epic .... and that is saying something.

And even if i wanted to use Galaxy, which I have to for Linux downloads, the memory it sucks up makes using it painful, so I avoid for Windows downloads, which are my primary downloads.

What I do, is always click Sort by: alphabetical. That way all the games are in order and I can note where I left off by letter. This doesn't help with games getting added or removed late, but solves some of the issue.

True, but as you mentioned, it is the other factor ... which is the governing one for me ... especially when alphabetical.

Usually I browse all the sales pages, then do a full refresh and see what might be added at the start or end ... hoping that covers it.

I guess I could do the alpha thing and then double dip and check the first few pages again after sorting by recent.

Yes, but if one misses one or two games there i(usually) always a next time/next sale.

That sucks when it happens, and I sympathize.....that said:
Sounds like you need to maybe install more memory or get a new PC(if able), as even my cheapo PC can run the GOG pages quickly enough.

Too few and far between for some of them ... but each to their own.

I will update my PC when ready, and in a way I already have, I just don't allow the newest beast Laptop (used for games, video editing, music editing, etc) to connect to the web much, to avoid the rubbish build up etc.

I also have another powerful Laptop, but that also is not allowed to connect at all, as it runs Win XP, and I use it for most of my coding projects etc ... and older games.

If my beast of a Desktop hadn't died suddenly a few years back, it would be a different story.

For most stuff I use this PC for (mostly web browsing, email, cataloging, downloading, etc), it is perfectly adequate. I use it with an external keyboard, mouse and large monitor. So despite being a Netbook maxed out to 2 GB Ram, it serves its purposes pretty well. One day I will retire it, and it will return to what it was supposed to be used for, but I would need to reorganize my work areas and locations to suit any new changes .... which is happening, albeit slowly right now.

Such is life.

Yup. As for internet needs, there are some nice laptops for cheap(used or new) out there with more RAM if you're ever looking for such....I get mine for around 600 bucks. :)

It should be pretty clear by now that what I do is deliberate, and that I know all the options.

That includes many things I have not mentioned. I have my reasons.

I wasn't born yesterday and have quite a holistic approach.

Part of that is being proactive and knowing full well that prevention is the best cure.

To go outside of my remit, I have to have a damn good reason .... not heard one yet ... just stuff based on urges.

I'm not someone who has lost his way or doesn't know it, I know it very well.

I've been using a PC since the days of the Apple IIE, so over 25 years, and programming for at least half of that, so I know hardware and software. I know the bigger picture.
