Linko64: You're still gating off the forums and would be users/customers, trolls are easily dealt with via moderation. I didn't miss a single thing in the post and the point still remains. You'll often see a fresh account asking a question here at least one or twice a week about a game before they buy it. By taking your method, that person doesn't get to ask the question (you'd be surprised how many people don't want to contact support) thus drastically limiting the chances of them buying said game.
BreOl72: Well, then take the forums out of the equation - as already stated by others - the troll posts
in the forums aren't the biggest problem here, since they are usually quickly read and reported.
Let's restrict it to the reviews.
Or are you going to argue next, that an arbitrary number of games that an account has to own, before it is eligible to write reviews, would be unfair to users who own less games?
Well, easily solved: let's exchange the fixed number of games with a certain amount of money spent. Let's say: you have to spend at least $25 - before you can write reviews.
You can easily spend that amount of money on a single game, or on 12 games (
if each is on an 80% to 90% discount). So it shouldn't be too hard to reach that amount of money.
Do the math yourself: on how many troll accounts would you be willing to spend $25, only to write trash reviews?
And please don't reply with "
yes, but then we might miss out on some wonderfully written reviews, done by new GOG users who are just not around long enough to spend that money here!"
I'm pretty sure, we all can wait - and if anyone has something important to say about a game, s/he can do it in the forums. We already have quite a number of well written reviews from forum members that didn't want their reviews getting lost in the review section.
And if someone trolls in the forum - report and the blues delete the troll post.
That way we are not dependend on users reading and reporting the trash reviews under each game.
First things first, less of the attuide mate, you can have a proper chin wag without fella.
Now that you've changed the point you were making slightly I guess we can focus in on a few points:
25 dollars, you could quite easily build a library on here without spending that. Are you then saying that this person is not welcome to share their views on a game because they did not spend X amount of money on the service? That's a problem already.
Do the math, what math. There's literally no math to do mate.
See first line of reply ^^
Now you're going back to the value of the forum which you were happy to throw away before, but for the sake of the point - Apply the report logic to reviews, it does help and they often deleted when highlighted.
Again, this is a friendly chit chat on the topic, if you start going radge then I'll just not bother replying. Or i'll charge you £25 quid before i do ;)
Public reviews are always open to abuse, it's just a case of moderartion or wholesale change, or straight up removal as we're seeing more of. It really depends on what you value and how you consume said content.
