Yuck, minecraft Sherlock Holmes! Wish i haven't seen this, because now i can't unsee it. Really, who thought this ugly pixelated boxes were a good idea. And if that wasn't bad enough it just had to be VR.

"This is a VR only game, and it requires a VR headset to be played."

That's sad ... but even though it looks interesting to me I'll have to pass here.
Did a Commercial VR escape room with the kids a few weeks back, it was a real fun experience.

For £10 I might buy this and try it at home

So, to sum up:

- minecraft graphics
- not actually about Sherlock Holmes
-"you’ll find objects that don’t feel the pull of gravity and impossible mechanisms." so basically all principles of logic that a Sherlock Holmes mystery is supposed to be about go right out the window

I can't even complain about it being VR, because I can't for the life of me see the what is supposed to be the appeal here.

I'm always happy to see VR games on GOG. Thank you cKolmos narrative and GOG!

To me buying a "works only with VR headsets" is a no no, as it will probably mean the game can't be played 5-10 years from now when there are no compatible VR headsets anymore.

It is a bit like that XBox mech game that required a specific mech HOTAS controller, and that's the only way to play it.
I would never be able to play a VR game .
Can somebody enlighten me please:

The game is brandnew and the storepage says it has no ratings ("Be first to rate"), no reviews but at the bottom it says it has an overall rating of 4.3...

How come? Does GOG put a "placeholder score" there? Or is the "be first to rate" nonsense?

There are also no forum posts which indicates that it simply is too new to have garnered much interest let alone customers, yet.

Also: VR-only games won't see a purchase from me.
It's a pity, really, but the reasons have been explained very well by others already.

How to say "I dont know anything about PCVR" without saying "I dont know anything about PCVR"

As far as I know, there's a minimum number of user ratings required before an average score will be displayed in that rating spot at the top of the page. "Be first to rate" would, then, just be GOG's (misleading) way of indicating this. (I could just about swear that it used to say something different, like "not enough data", but I could be wrong.)

I share a similar worry.

I don't know much about VR headsets, but from what I know of new trends in hardware, I doubt it is properly standardized. It is probably designed to work with some dominant vendor(s) of the day and as the trend evolves, I'm skeptical that backwards compatibility will be honored.

Given the very small proportion of games that requires them, I'm happy to just wait for a while and see what happens.

Then maybe look into it first? The logic of what timpuu said here is the same if I said - "there is no point buying PC games, as in 5-10 years there are new CPU's and GPU's an OS's, and they can't be played anymore".

Google "OpenXR"

I am sorry, but a lot of what I see in this thread is just ignorance.

As previously said, I'm not that invested in it. Its for a small minority of games and I'm a busy guy. I looked into it for like 5 minutes the other day.

Awesome that you are passionate about it, but don't project your preference in everyone else. When you're more knowledgeable on a topic than somebody else, be charitable about it, especially when they display enough humility to admit ignorance on the subject matter.

Next question for you: Great that there is an open-source implementation out there, but how much industry penetration does it have? How likely is it that games you buy will support it? Is this likely to become a standard (or inspire a standard) or just be ignored by most of the industry?

EDIT: Ok, I looked at the list of supporters in the wikipedia article and its not bad. I'll consider it once enough games support VR. Thanks for the info.

Oh, that's a bummer about the VR exclusivity. I would have liked a non-VR version. Seems like an interesting game nonetheless, but I have no choice but to pass on this one. :(

Speaking of pixelated boxy delights, seeing this game reminds me of another loosely similar title: Shadows of Doubt!
