damien: Are there any differences between this and the steam version?
Unfortunately, it turned that GOG release lacks four languages (Czech, Hungarian, Polish and Russian) and versions for Mac and Linux. All these features are available on Steam.

You are right. Hopefully, they will update it, to feature these aswell.

Thanks for the info. I'm definitely tempted.

THEY ACTUALLY DID IT!!

Maybe that e-mail I sent to TopWare was not completely wasted after all!!!

:O Instabuy

The game was plagued by numerous issues. Crashing when entering minimap, music not playing, freezing etc. If GOG fixed it all, then awesome. This is probably the best game where you play as an actual dragon with a killer soundtrack. Time to play through it with english voice overs.

And to those hoping for Drakan, just forget it. It is Sony we're talking about.

tfishell: I think it's also worth pointing out that this could be an example of a release happening (or at least being "helped along") by users contacting a publisher. Another user (or more) and I contacted Topware a few months back (maybe longer, 6+ months?) about this game. Obviously there are complexities (usually legal, or GOG rejection :p) involved but it doesn't hurt to contact a dev or pubisher about GOG releases, especially if people do it en masse.
Yup, that was me. I asked them about releasing it on GOG in January.

Thanks for pointing! I cancelled my purchase of the game.

How is this different from Drakan, specifically? I've beat Drakan many times, but never played I of the Dragon.

From the very unclear trailers on the GOG store page, I have no idea what the gameplay actually entails in I of the Dragon.

That's the one thing holding me back, looking at what's being sold on Steam: that version seems to be problematic as you've mentioned. Unless someone can confirm this release doesn't suffer from the same issues.

You play only as an in-flight Dragon. You cannot land. You can choose from 3 dragons at start with different base attributes. You fly around, kill monsters and their hives (buildings from which they spawn) to gain experience and level up. Every level-up, you get 25 points to distribute between attributes and new spells. Every dragon has different prices for different attributes and learning spells. You have a choice of a magic orientated dragon, damaging breath focused dragon and a quickly regenerating summoner dragon. Every dragon also has different spell pools.

There is a world map with many areas and you go through them one by one. Each area has some different objective, enemies and layout. In some, you can build and upgrade cities. Cities also prevent monster hives from rebuilding. Once you are done with that, you move on to the next area on the map. Monsters can also invade the areas you already cleared if it neighbors with a monster infested area. They can destroy the city if you don't assist with its defense and repopulate the area as the hives will start rebuilding.

The controls can take a bit to get used to, especially since you can also fluidly change the height at which you soar.

I have the game on CD and it also had some of those issues.

But I just tested the GOG version and everything seems to be working fine. Music, no crashes, controls working normally. Just don't go overboard with the resolution as the UI does not scale.

So go for it.

MischiefMaker: You managed to get The I of the Dragon working on modern PCs?
Could A.I.M. 2: Clan Wars be next???
HUGE 1C fan here too, AIM is such a fantastic little series!

and yeah my old copy of I of the Dragon never worked right HELL YEAH!

Its a fun little game where you can have different classes of dragons to fly around and just BE a dragon... such a great little game, absolutely worth the price!

I don't understand why this series is still not on GOG.

Yes, the first A.I.M. game is available only on GamersGate and maybe they have some kind of exclusive contract, but A.I.M. 2: Clan Wars is available on Steam and on IndieGala (DRM-Free, by the way).

Come on, GOG! Give us at least the second part of this series. Pretty please!

Interesting release! The game card does not list online achievements or other shop specific crap. Can anyone confirm that this is the vanilla game, not infested by Galaxy?

There are cloud saves, and nothing else.

Also, here is a link to a guide on Steam to greatly improve the visuals of the game:
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=486972895

Many things can't be tweaked in the options like LOD levels, shadows, texture quality etc.

Use the manual method of editing registry at the end of the guide. Just tried and it works wonders. Some notes to every place that is mentioned in the guide:

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Primal\Dragon\Debug]
Here he changes the spell slot ordering. No need to do this IMO.

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Primal\Dragon\Graphics]
You can turn on MultiSampling if you want. DON'T turn on TrippleBuffer and VSync. The game works perfectly for me with these 2 disabled.

Definitely disable CompressedTextures

And as for horizontal FOV, the game was made for 4:3 resolution. You can put higher in here but the image seemed stretched to me if I did it. Up to you.

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Primal\Dragon\Graphics\Lighting]
Definitely increase MaxLights to allow unlimited lights rendering.

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Primal\Dragon\Graphics\Models]
Do everything in the guide. This disables the noticeable LOD changes based on distance. Allow BumpMapping too for good measure. This is THE most important change to make to improve overall visuals.

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Primal\Dragon\Graphics\Shadows]
Follow the guide, except for Intensity. The default is 2, but he makes the shadows not as dark by reducing it to 1.2.
2 seems perfectly fine to me.

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Primal\Dragon\Graphics\VertexProcessing]
It was already the same as in the guide so no change needed here.

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Primal\Dragon\Input]
Here you can disable mouse acceleration.

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Primal\Dragon\Options\Video]
These are the actual in-game settings. You can set these from the game itself.

Thanks! Cloud saves are an external mechanism which does not harm the game, so no problem. But meanwhile I've seen the GOG release once again lacks the Linux support which is available on Steam. :/

Do you know if the Linux version on Steam is a native one? Is it playable without the Steam client?

wildapple-2020: Hopefully, they will update it, to feature these aswell.
I already have bought too many games on GOG in the hope that a missing Linux or language version will be added later. They still not have been added even after years and probably never will be. I'm tired of GOG's lack of Linux support and after more than 6 years with GOG as my only game store I've started to create accounts on other game stores. Now I rather buy my games where my operating system is supported and grab a DRM-free Windows version on GOG only on a high discount and when it works on Wine.

Has anyone already tried to run the GOG version on Wine?
