A classic RTS title from Strategy First makes a comeback on modern computers. In Submarine Titans your mission is to lead one of the three underwater factions and gain control over the flooded dystopian world of the future. The game is available on GOG.COM with a 10% discount until 2nd January 2020, 2 PM UTC.
Well I'll be a moray's uncle, it's here, it's really here.
So glad this finally made it here! Instantly bought it.

May not be the best game ever. Starcraft and C&C will forever overshadow it.
But who cares. It's got a unique setting and it's fun. Huge tech tree.

Don't seem to have the manual though? I don't know if it's strictly required, but I remember there being a lot of good lore in it, so including it would be nice.
edit: I think there's no forum for this game yet?

Well damn, sometimes the legal situation really is as simple as it seems. :P I got the impression that if Strategy First really did still have the rights, then the game woulda been here by now. I got in touch with one of the devs over this and also got the impression he had the rights, but he also seemed too busy to work on a re-release.

But hey, it's here now and I guess SF still have publishing rights like Mobygames suggested.

Woah, I nearly missed that, great release!
I bought it used two years ago and it was missing the manual which had the serial key in it, so the copy was worthless, very nice to see it here!

It's only Starcraft-like if you consider the scifi setting with non symmetric armies (in contrast with other RTS which have only minor changes about factions, like Age of Empires). By those generic terms, everything could be a Starcraft clone.

However it has things which SC didn't. The main one is the use of upkeep for the weapon usage, as in Cossacks, which needs an income flux to have your army able to shoot. Another good one is the dynamic UI, which allows different shortcuts to the buildings you want to have quick access to. The 3d is not a cosmetic thing but a strategic one: you need to carefully position in both horizontal and vertical plane your units to avoid weapons or to shoot from better positions.

And the fact that it has a RNG map generator and even an AI edition guide for a game made in 2000 places it above its kin in some regards.

Until gog make manual available you can download it from the Internet Archive: https://archive.org/details/Submarine_Titans_Manual/page/n3
If you want to play it in Linux:
It works in a clean 32bit WINE 3.20 prefix, you just have to wait for the intro videos to finish, if you want to see them (you won't), drag them to the top left corner of the screen or use a virtual desktop.

Remember to change the screen settings in the game to 1280x1024, although it's an RTS from the year 2000, it actually supports that resolution and still looks stunning to this day.

By the way, does anyone know how to skip the three intro videos?
Permanently would be good.

YOU DID WHAT NOW
You don't stop surprising! What an end of the year! I remember that this game was compared to Starcraft when it came out. It wasn't as popular however and somehow vanished in the flow o time. Nice that it's available here. To the wishlist!
Great addition! Not my genre but this will make a few people very happy, I guess :-)

We don't "suggest" the current rightsholders, just publishers for individual releases. There were quite a few back in the day, USA had Strategy First, some European markets had PAN Interactive (now PAN Vision), Spain had FX Interactive (and that release was quite popular), etc., so it makes me wonder how Strategy First has global publishing rights now.

Be that as it may, it's a very good release. Pre-patched to v1.1.0 so campaign missions are fixed, all the auxiliary programs (AI editor, map editor, sound editor) seem to be here, includes a DirectX config tool that reminds me of nGlide (I guess it was an attempt to fix inverted colours on some systems?), DirectPlay .reg files you can easily use, even an IPX wrapper is included for multiplayer. Alt-Tab works without issue, too!

The only thing missing is a manual and goodies (there were some official wallpapers IIRC). Serial key requirement is gone, but I hope multiplayer never needed those.
