General Troubleshooting
-----------------------

If you're experiencing black screen / crash on launch, please try the following:

- Before starting the game, change video resolution to your desktop one (or the closest match). if that fails, try falling back to 1024x768. Video settings can be found under GOG Galaxy HERE
-- or in Start Menu HERE.
- Close any unnecessary applications running in the background, especially ones overlay-based like EVGA Precision, MSI Afterburner, GeForce Experience, FRAPS etc.
- If running multiple screen setup, try switching to a single monitor.

If none of the above helps, please send your DxDiag to our Support team HERE. The more information we have, the easier it will be to pinpoint the problem.

May the Force serve you well.

GalacticKnight: There's several factors here.

<snip>

As you've said, there's a lot of "goo-ing" and "gah-ing", but that's for good reason. An average game wouldn't get this kind of attention.

I've, personally, been waiting forever for this to come to GOG, and I'm quite happy to finally get my hands on this version.

HereForTheBeer: Guess I'll hit up the ol' youtubes to check out gameplay. In the screenshots, we don't even see any of the competition, and the only indication that you're competing against more than the clock is the position counter in the top right.

Thanks for the details.
actually the game looks like ass in screenshots. it looks better in motion. the game didn't actually move you as fast it claimed but the way the textures and environments were designed visually made it seem like you really were going that fast once you got up to speed. you spent most of your time at that speed so it looks good. basically the game looks much better in motion. you do race against others though you do not race bumper to bumper as much as you do in conventional racers, but this is no DIRT, you do race against others.

tfishell: Definitely check out YouTube for gameplay footage, it's what everyone should do before purchasing, wishlist voting, etc. any game. (just fyi, this Friday,LGR will release a video on the GOG-specific release.) The game had nearly 6,000 wishlist votes, so the hubabaloo doesn't surprise me. :)

tinyE: Remember the good old days when everything had a demo? I miss that. I never got screwed.
There were some games were the demo was better than the full vrsion... Prince of persia 3D is the best exemple...
I'm having a problem but it's not what's listed. When I alt-tab out, the game freezes although music could continue playing. I have to alt-f4 and restart the game. I have not had the video problem or an overlay issue with nvidia's overlay. The issue isn't a black screen on launch it's a freeze when alt-tabbing out and then clicking back in. Latest nvidia drivers with a GTX 1080 ti on fall creator's update win 10 x64 pro.
Has anyone tested the game with an Xbox 360 controller yet?

Yep. It works perfectly. Just have to make sure to enable joystick after setting the controls on the 360 controller.

i used to play this one with the sidewinder steering wheel, with the shift up and down used for lift on each side.

I will never forget playing this the first time, i was on 2 sugar cubes (4 way) and i beat the game with out collisions from start to finish in less than 2 hours. what a trip that was.

christmas day in 1999.

memories.

I have. It works pretty well actually. Just keep in mind that you'll either have to map it yourself or press the Default button while the controller's connected (or turned on if it's wireless) because there's nothing mapped under the Joystick menu from the start. There were a few things that didn't get mapped with that option, such as Slide and Taunting. I haven't had any issues playing with it so far, but if you like to alt+tab every once in a while to check your messages make sure to remap the keyboard controls as those are prioritized over the joystick ones and your camera will be facing the wrong way once you get back in-game (because Tab is set to turn the camera into back view). I don't think there's a way to map the start button for pausing the game via the options menu (as far as I can tell), so keep in mind that you'll have to pause with the Esc key even when you're playing with a controller.

At last! I've been eagerly waiting for you guys to make this classic available. Thank you, GOG!

Now we just need Episode I: The Phantom Menace, Episode I: Battle for Naboo, Battlefront, Force Commander, Yoda Stories and The Clone Wars: Republic Heroes. :D
Since RedOut doesn't seem to ever be coming to GOG...
FORCE FEEDBACK?

My XB1 wired controller has the "Default" keys mapped now but I still get something like "No Force Feecback Device..." in the Force Feedback section (rumble/vibration).

Anyone get this working?

Other:
For VIDEO RESOLUTIONS (GOG->Racer->More->Other->Video), I oddly don't see "2560x1440" listed though it's my native resolution.

Even stranger I do get the HIGHER resolution (just under 4K) that is one of the two I have for NVIDIA DSR settings... so I chose that and it worked fine and there's no obvious ALIASING issues (smooths out the jagged lines nicely at this res).

Thanks for the info!
Incredible. I can only wonder at how long GOG must have worked to find a way to get this functioning on modern PCs. I just wish someone could tell me if they could play it on WINE.
Has anyone gotten the triggers on an Xbox One (/360) controller to work for Brake and Throttle? Due to the way the triggers are +/- Z, if I map Left/Right to Brake/Throttle respectively, only one of them will work.

Also any fixes available yet for HUD/Menu stretching (while retaining gameplay at fullscreen).

EDIT: Found a fix for xinput controller, although sadly you will lose Analog throttle.
1. Open game folder > data > config > current.
2. Add the following in-place of the current ANALOG_THROTTLE and BRAKE:
JOYSTICK AXIS=Z FUNCTION=THRUST AXIS_RANGE=NEGATIVE
JOYSTICK AXIS=Z FUNCTION=BRAKE AXIS_RANGE=POSITIVE
3. Lastly, flip the X axis (this can be done in-game as well) near the bottom of the joystick section add this:
JOYSTICK AXIS=Z FLIP_AXIS

For me, most surprising release here after System Shock 2.

I need a moment... I need to a moment to accept this really happened...
Excellent work putting this game out. Would love to see a release of the original Battlefront sometime in the future as well.
