General Troubleshooting
-----------------------

If you're experiencing black screen / crash on launch, please try the following:

- Before starting the game, change video resolution to your desktop one (or the closest match). if that fails, try falling back to 1024x768. Video settings can be found under GOG Galaxy HERE
-- or in Start Menu HERE.
- Close any unnecessary applications running in the background, especially ones overlay-based like EVGA Precision, MSI Afterburner, GeForce Experience, FRAPS etc.
- If running multiple screen setup, try switching to a single monitor.

If none of the above helps, please send your DxDiag to our Support team HERE. The more information we have, the easier it will be to pinpoint the problem.

May the Force serve you well.

So glad this is here! I played it a lot back in the day on the Dreamcast and look forward to playing it again.

Splatsch: I'm playing with my PS2 pad connected with an USB converter and I have absolutely no issue ! And it specified on the gamecard that there is "full controler support", so I think there are good chances that it'll be working well for a classic Xbox 360 controller :) (I think)
Edit:
I just saw the recent update. So some people are saying the game doesn't work well with an XBox 360 controller?

IronArcturus: That's good! Does the game allow key remapping?
YES!!!! THANK GOD! :D
I too am trying to get this game running on my Microsoft Surface Pro 4 running Windows 10 and am getting the same rdroid_gnome error people are getting and am having the game crash.

I've tried multiple resolutions on both the computer as well as the game itself and at some point during the main loading bar it crashes each time.

Anyone know any more ways of adjusting the settings other than the fairly basic GOG settings available? Or is it a case of waiting for a patch?

Yes it does, I can remap all keys and axis :)
Buuut... 2 post up someone with a 360 controller seems to have issues :/ Which surprises me.

Wicket1138: Is there a trick to get an controller working? The joystick setup doesn't recognise my XBox 360 USB controller.
Nope, I simply went into the joystick menu, mapped the all the key/axis I wanted, and checked the option "joystick activated". Under the big red "JOYSTICK SETTINGS" at top right, you don't see anything ? (for me "Detected : 4 axes - 12 buttons").

I'm attaching a screenshot of the joystick settings in case it could help both of you.

actually I'm using a keyboard. Arrow keys for thrust and turns, WASD for roll and nose up/down.

So, is this using dgVoodoo2 to get it running on Win8 and Win10?

And the screen resolution settings, are they modifying the SWEP1RCR.EXE and RACER.EXE executables to replace the standard 640x480 resolution? Only I think this causes HUD stretching and vert- rather than hor+ for widescreen.

I'm playing it on 1920 x 1080 and it looks cool. If anything is stretched it's barely noticeable. The pods all look great. The backgrounds are shit but they never were the strength of the game.

Oh :)
It's great if it plays well on a keyboard too :D

Who takes the time to look at backgrounds while driving his pod ? ;)

By the way, can someone explain me what is this "slide" button useful for ? XD

When you've put as many hours into this game as I have, I DO! :P

I'm discovering it personally :) It's since its launch that I want to play it :D

Edit : And I just finished all the Amateur races : it's really good :)

They make the backgrounds look like shit so that they look good when screaming by them at 800 km/h.
BTW, Mars Guo is definitely compensating for something. In my headcannon, he survives Sebulba's sabotage.

No. It's using a "ddraw.dll" and the game is DX9 (or DX9EX, I don't remember). But I prefer dgVoodoo, so I replaced that dll with the dgVoodoo one (apart from adding the others and configuring dgVoodoo).

I'm playing at 2560x1440 with 4xSGSSAA, and did a shader mod for 16:9 (with centered HUD). There's some culling at the sides depending on the location, but it's generally a good 16:9. I'll publish this on the Helixmod blog in the following days, as a 3D Vision fix.

Does the game run in a window?
