Raiders of the Galaxy.

Space Rogue Classic, the timeless space combat simulator with plenty of RPG elements, is available now, DRM-free on GOG.com.

Your crew didn't deserve that fate. While you were out there on your own, investigating a derelict ship floating through space, a band of ruthless Manchi raiders appeared out of nowhere and wiped out everyone aboard your trading vessel, the Princess Blue. Now you're on the warpath, seeking to avenge your mates and perhaps become a class-A space rogue in the process.
Those are both admirable goals, but to get there you've got a lot of space to cover. You will be constantly alternating between the 3D view used in space combat and exploration, and the top-down perspective through which you navigate the planetary outposts, talk to NPCs, and handle trades, quests, or ship upgrades. The galaxy is a pretty vast space, but there's no wormhole big enough for these despicable Manchi to hide in!

Travel across the galaxy, upgrade your ship, and become the ultimate Space Rogue Classic, DRM-free on GOG.com.
YESSS, This is great!! What a nice surprise!
Mmm, classic! Nice to get an old goodie like this here.
A rerelease from the eighties and a space game too. Is this really still playable today, I wonder. For me to stomach those graphics, the gameplay must be good.
Quite surprised to see this as a Night Dive Studios title, though that may explain the delays. Feel free to ask questions about the game, will try to answer them.

How's the 3D part? Comparable to the classic Elite? And is there a real story or is it pretty much a sandbox game?
I've never heard of this game before but it looks nice. It's great to see a game from the 80s/90s era! I'll buy it to support more classics as well as the fact it looks quite nice. :)

Noctropolis, which was also initially published by EA, ended up being rereleased by Night Dive. I wonder if Night Dive has access to other old EA games.
Never heard of this game but: it's an oldie, it has manual...will not lat long until it lands on my shelf
I remember really liking Space Rogue when it first came out, but got stuck somewhere quite far into the game.
But I was terrible at English back then, that might have something to do with it, and around ten years old :)
I remember the manual was quite well done and there were some nice extra touches - it's included with the release by the way :)

I haven't played the classic Elite, so I can't compare it. You are flying through space, the maximum number of available ships is limited, you can encounter the occasional hazard (asteroids come to mind) and the dogfights do require you to pay quite a bit of attention. A joystick is highly recommended, though I did manage to play it with a controller. Only attempt to fly with a keyboard if you wish to punish yourself, since when using the keyboard you do not get a smooth movement, but each time you press the key you move one unit, so to turn 90 degrees to the left, you'll have to tap it about 90 times or so.

There is a story, though you will need to do a lot of grinding. I guess I would describe it as a good precursor to Privateer, where you do have a ton of stuff to do, and a story you may wish to follow up on at some point.

But Noctropolis wasn't an Origin developed game, unlike Space Rogue. Thus my surprise, I thought EA had all the Origin works.

Thank you. Sounds like something I might like. Will check some videos and then decide if I'll buy it right away.
LOL! That's the problem when games share the same name... I recall commenting in the release thread of "that other Space Rogue" how I first thought it is this game.

Then I figured "maybe the old Space Rogue game is too old and archaic to re-release, even by GOG's standards"... but what do you know, now it is here.

(Yes yes I know there are even older games in GOG like Akalabeth etc., but usually GOG seems to release pre-1990 games only if they have very significant historical value, like the aforementioned Ultima 0. Not games where most people say "never heard of this".)

Interesting, but just as a collectible because I really doubt I'd ever play it.
