It's alsways safe to back tings up - but afaik they never have renoved the original from the LIBRARY when offering the remaster - only from the store. In fact when they removed the game from store they posted that you will keep the game in your library if you bought it before the removal.

The game is delisted from Steam also. The Steam page says that the game is no longer for sale per developer request.

no there was some evidence (iirc in the form of a database entry) that it might come here found several years ago.

but again, that was a fair amount of time ago. something could have fallen through due to negotiations or bethesda could have backed out or maybe it was never going to happen at all or maybe it still is going to happen. who knows.

It's actually amazing the number of people who absolutely will get their panties in a twist over missing achievements/trophies. They are by far the most useless and unnecessary part of a video game but some people (typicall younger) expect them to be mandatory. I personally just find them an annoyance more than anything.

Achievements are just digital participation trophies. Participation trophies were a terrible idea in the '90s and they aren't any better now.

Are you sure? The <i>GOG Database</i> downloads page doesn't show it as a goodie; neither does the GOG store page. If it is included, is the soundtrack also included?
I know it's hard to believe, but not everyone who is registered on GOG today has been here for years. Regardless of that, my point about the soundtrack still stands -- it was included as a goodie with the original version and apparently is not included with the remastered version.

When the remastered version was released, the original was immediately pulled from GOG, but it was still available on Steam (hence some of us saying it was still on Steam). It was removed from Steam this afternoon (16 April 2021 at 16:57:16 UTC).

I couldn't care less about achievements, so the lack of achievements wouldn't bother me other than the principle of being treated like a second-rate purchaser and paying the same while getting less. However, with regard to your last sentence, I have to say, I've never been a fan of the "Shut up, take what they give you, and smile" ideology. It's exactly that attitude that has let developers (of games and general software) force their will upon us and tell us what we are allowed to do with our computers (for example, by removing options and settings, removing compatibility, refusing to fix bugs, etc), as well as change from perpetual licensing (where you pay only once) to a subscription model where you pay monthly and lose access when you stop paying.

Lastly, you're really going to complain, on a GOG message board, that someone wants games to be DRM-free?

KetobaK didn't specify to which game he/she was referring, and I interpreted the response as saying this game (Shadow Man) was removed because the original is included with the remaster as a goodie.

If KetobaK meant the original Baldur's Gate was included as a goodie with the Enhanced Edition, then that statement would be technically incorrect, as it was not included as a goodie; the original game was added to the purchaser's library as a separate game. The same was true for Planescape: Torment.

FTFY (It really puzzles me how people still can think that a subjective opinion can be stated as a fact).
Regarding achievements - as I said - many. many people like them so those who dislike them might even be the minority, which makkes it even stranger to see how eager they are to point out how useless they think they are. if I am not mistaken Steam actually demands or at least wants devs to include achievements and there is a reason GOG Galaxy devs went the extra mile to make them possibble in Galaxy as well ... of course it is also strange that they never invented a simple way to turn Steam achievements into Galaxy achievements which probably is the main reason why GOG is missing so many achievements FOR THOSE WHO LIKE THEM.

Speaking about removed original games : the 2 Bloodrayne and 3 Fallout games .

Steam encourage them partially as a soft "enhancement" to their DRM, ie, "We suggest enhancing the value of legitimate copies of your game by using Steamworks features which won't work on non-legitimate copies (e.g. online multiplayer, achievements, leaderboards, trading cards, etc.)." quoted from their Steamworks DRM developer page.

GOG seem determined to copy Steam because they want to become Steam-Lite (in all the wrong areas). And the problem with achievements on GOG is that they don't come without compromise. Eg, GOG actually have come up with a "ghost wrapper" that "translates Steam achievements to Galaxy ones" as you suggested above, and it's having negative performance effects on startup times for offline installers (read this and this for examples).

The reason many people dislike them on GOG isn't "Someone else likes what I don't and I want to spoil their fun", but rather the measurable negative effect they are having on offline installers as seen in above links, on top of it being an already uphill struggle enough to get GOG to focus on offline installers "naturally" without being further distracted by the client obsession.

I don't have anything against achievements in general. They can be fun, clever and challenging. But this is mostly the case when developer is thinking about them WHILE MAKING the game. Not so much when they try to slap them on classic titles. Most times there are dull and unimaginative. I've checked those for Shadowm Man on Steam and it looks like I was right: most of them as just plot ones, you will get them just by plaing the game. Another good exaplme is Flashback 25th anniverary. There are TWO interesting trophies (finishing game without rewind). And that was my whole point of replay to this guy, He wanted to neglect all developer past and future work becouse of some minor detail he dosn't like. It could be soundtrack, artbook etc. I just don't get it.
