Your personal guide to the galaxy.

Rebel Galaxy, a swashbuckling space adventure from the developers of Torchlight, is available now, DRM-free on GOG.com with GOG Galaxy achievements and a 10% launch discount.

Action, exploration, discovery, trade, diplomacy. Can you ask for more in a title about the fantasy of space?
How about power? You're in command of a hulking, terrifying star destroyer. You will traverse the outer reaches of space doing what you can to get by - whether it's fending off or hunting pirates, exploring the unknown, mining, or scavenging - all the paths and choices are yours. Your riches can be wisely invested, or spent on a few more guns and a bigger chassis. But the huge universe open before you may just be more than you've bargained for. Just... Try to survive without blowing up everything.

Well, maybe you could also ask for a killer soundtrack. Done.
Check out the launch trailer, and set off on the biggest adventure of your life:

JudasIscariot: I might have to build a 64-bit WINE version for this one and see how it goes. I mean the game itself needs DirectX 11 and MSVC++ 2012 but I am worried about the 64-bit versions of such :/
avatar
shmerl: I thought you were talking about Rebel Galaxy (isn't it DX9 based?). That's what I see in the game card:
DirectX: Version 9.0b

DX11 support in Wine isn't ready - otherwise I would have tried to play Witcher 3 already ;) Not sure what will happen first - CDPR will decide to wake up and release Witcher 3 for Linux, or Wine will implement DX11 support.

JudasIscariot: If there was a way to have two different versions of Wine without having to do a WoW 64 build, it would be great :D
avatar
shmerl: You can use PlayOnLinux for that. It allows managing many Wine versions (it installs them locally in your home directory). Including 64-bit ones.
I'll try it :) The only issue I have is I don't know what those versions were compiled with and I have no idea how to tell as I am still new at this :)

You can check that information here: https://www.playonlinux.com
It's not as ideal as distro packaged variant, since here you have to trust that PlayOnLinux project maintainers are building it without hidden intents. But on the other hand it's more flexible and allows having many versions (and also update them as soon as they come out).

IronArcturus: That Escape Velocity: Nova game looks pretty cool!

rampancy: EV, EV Override and EV Nova were some of the best games of their genre, with just about everything you'd want in a space-based 2D isometric CRPG.

I would love to see EV Nova on GOG, with its official ports of EV and EV Override as downloadable extras.
For sure. I tweeted Ambrosia SW about it and they said they have no plans to do so unfortunately. Hopefully that changes.
My Avast antivirus software tried to block the install when I attempted to install on Galaxy. I overrode it, but might wanna look into that. :-P

Migth be a false positive.
My antivirus also sometimes do that for some games, even if they are brand new.
wont hurt to ask the devs just in case though.

It is 3rd best selling on steam, so you should see correct.

Still people complain about the $20 price tag......
I may get this on the weekend. Glad they kept it to 2D as 3D is to Hard to work out where you are. I gave up on other space games that were in 3D, good idea but a lot harder to play.

Cheers

I can't disagree with you there. I backed Star Citizen which will be 3D in the universe. My concern is as always with 3D type games I do tend to lose my bearings and find myself flying in the wrong direction. Well that is what I found years ago. I guess I'll have to become a better navigator in the future :)
So I think I found the culprit for the crashes in the commodities menus. I switch from full-screen to windowed full-screen and it hasn't crashed through hours of play.

AND a welcome Day 2 (3?) patch including a fix for the commodities menu! I actually encountered this one once (in the form of a hard lock not a crash) - glad I won't have to again!

Thanks for the quick patch / update devs! (like, both of you right? LOL). Much appreciated!

Wow, that was fast. Thanks for telling me too, as I didn't see an update flag for the game.
Finally some decent looking indie games in Rebel Galaxy and Age of Decadence. Wishlishted.

Any success in Wine?

Errrrm no. I mean I got to see the title menu but then something goes pear-shaped 85% into the initial loading bar after pressing "New Game". And yes, this is on a clean prefix.
