Your personal guide to the galaxy.

Rebel Galaxy, a swashbuckling space adventure from the developers of Torchlight, is available now, DRM-free on GOG.com with GOG Galaxy achievements and a 10% launch discount.

Action, exploration, discovery, trade, diplomacy. Can you ask for more in a title about the fantasy of space?
How about power? You're in command of a hulking, terrifying star destroyer. You will traverse the outer reaches of space doing what you can to get by - whether it's fending off or hunting pirates, exploring the unknown, mining, or scavenging - all the paths and choices are yours. Your riches can be wisely invested, or spent on a few more guns and a bigger chassis. But the huge universe open before you may just be more than you've bargained for. Just... Try to survive without blowing up everything.

Well, maybe you could also ask for a killer soundtrack. Done.
Check out the launch trailer, and set off on the biggest adventure of your life:

No, I don't know the first thing about modding. I play vanilla only, so I doubt it's an easter egg.. I'm glad that I was able to tell folks about unfound goodies, but no one has been able to answer my question. Oh, well...

JudasIscariot: Errrrm no. I mean I got to see the title menu but then something goes pear-shaped 85% into the initial loading bar after pressing "New Game". And yes, this is on a clean prefix.
Did you try any native overrides? I'd start with dx9d36 or may be full DirectX 9 if the former doesn't help.

thebream: Finally some decent looking indie games in Rebel Galaxy and Age of Decadence. Wishlishted.
Fo shizzle. I really dig how 'independent' is no longer a euphemism for boring-as-hell point and click games with amateurish graphics and an obsession with offering some obtuse psychological/sociological/ideological point. There's actual games that stand on their own as games now, and my long dark winter of no new titles is fading away.

Nah, I just went with the OpenGL renderer, toned down the special effects, set everything else to "Medium", and managed to get the game to play that way. Still likes to crash here and there though :P
Here's the deal: Rebel Galaxy is a thoughtful, immersive, fun game. The developer also happens to be a genuinely caring person, responsive to the players.

Two things you should consider:

1. Was the TV show Firefly a guilty pleasure?

2. Did you ever consider exploring the stars to embrace the possibilities?

If you answered yes to both: WELCOME ABOARD!

Would you mind sharing how you exactly set up your installation? I didn't have any success so far in setting up wine correctly, as I ran into several unimplemented features of wine.

Thanks a lot.

This is all done in WINE 1.7.53 compiled from source.

1. A clean .wine prefix. I believe you already know how to preserve your .wine prefixes but if you don't, please let me know :)

2. Make sure you have a patched version of the game. Version 1.03 or higher. To make sure you have the latest version, redownload the installer as it's been updated to the latest version of the game, 1.041.

3. I used "winetricks vcrun2012" as the installer attempts to install this redistributable but has errors in WINE. You can try using some dx3d winetricks but OpenGL is already a Linux standard so I use the OpenGL renderer from the game's launcher.

4. To try and start the game run "wine GoGLauncher.exe" to launch the game's launcher. No, this is not the old GOG Launcher. Instead, it's the devs' way of differentiating between the Steam and GOG versions of the game :)

5. Attached below is my personal Rebel Galaxy launcher set up with version 1.03 of Rebel Galaxy. I have not had a chance to try out version 1.041 so your results may vary.

Almost exactly 4 years later than the last post (Oct 27, 2015), I dove into Rebel Galaxy due to seeing a trailer for the newer version: Rebel Galaxy: Outlaw. {first time}

I can understandably see why they did a newer version. Hopefully, the game covers adding waypoints and a bit more content. The game mechanics are still very entertaining (I have about 30 hours into the game at this point). I am slowly playing the game to enjoy the content and the unlocks.

if the DEVs ever wanted to branch on making it more "build your ship or station" from what you can find it would extend the content greatly in future versions. The music is fantastic even with repeated songs. Then again I can leave the same CD or USB stick (with songs) in my car for months before changing anything out.

A game is like a song, sometimes you need to do it again just catch the finer nuances of angles that you missed before. This game was worth the time and money invested. Looking forward to the Outlaw version.
