You know, I can understand remaking a successful game a gazillion times, but is this Cyan's admission that only the first Myst game is worthy of such treatment?

idk i pretty much liked 1 and 2 the most. 3 and 4 were not bad. didn't care for 5 so much or that multiplayer uru game. i would welcome a remake of riven in the unreal engine.

i played the original in 1996 when i was 13 and it did have a certain magic to it anyway.

the realmyst remakes/remasters were honestly kind of poopy imo -- i didn't like their controls and they lacked a sense of scale. as a fan i'm glad they did it again.

Wait a moment. Wasn't the first Myst mouse control only?

Alexim: And Cyan Worlds once again shows little respect for GOG customers by omitting the Galaxy achievements.
No achievements? Fine with me. The original release didn't have achievements either. Very few games back then had what people might consider to be achievements. "Achievements" wouldn't really come until many years later.

Exactly, so without achievements, this 84th remaster makes even less sense, we might as well play the first version.

Pre rendered videos yes, but this one seems full 3D.

They didn't implement key rebinds in Obduction, I don't see why they should bother with a Xth remake.

cmclout: From the store page:

"Q: I bought Myst when it first came out in 1993. Can I get a free upgrade to this new version?
A: Thank you for your support over the years! We are not giving out free upgrades to previous purchasers of the original Myst. We put a lot of effort into making this new version of Myst and would appreciate your financial support again!"

I bought the game twice on CD (I gave the first copy to a friend), but never had time to play it. Fast forward 20 years and I then bought it twice on GOG ("Myst Masterpiece Edition" and then "realMyst: Masterpiece Edition"), and I STILL haven't gotten around to playing it. I also bought the other five games in the series on CD/DVD and then again on GOG, but haven't played any of them yet, either.

I can't say I'm in any rush to buy Myst a fifth time, especially when the developer clearly does not value customer loyalty or support in any way. You don't need to give a free upgrade to those who purchased the game 28 years ago, but some sort of acknowledgement of customers' ongoing support through the years (other than saying "Thanks") would be nice. Without that ongoing support from those customers, the developer would have gone out of business a long time ago.
Stop buying then. Just launch the original! XP

It had the "click to move" thing as did Riven, The 7th Guest, etc. RealMyst introduced 3D movement (but retained the "click to move" as an option), as they also did for realMyst Masterpiece and Obduction (but with really screwed up controls for left-handers / non QWERTY keyboard users). Myst (2021) however is designed mostly around proper 3D movement (it would be awkward as hell for VR users without it).
whoa, they're really skyriming it!

AB2012: I might pick it up with a hefty 80% off discount in a few years time, but as mentioned previously, if the keyboard controls + tech support 'attitude' are a repeat of Obduction, it'll remain on the shelf...
again, potential solutions.

LOL. A lot of people seem to be trashing how bad the new characters look in the FMV:-

Original:-

I can't say I disagree with them...

Thanks. I'm aware of that workaround (and I apologise for not replying on the other thread). Honestly though I think I'll pass anyway given the above...

LMAO. So they swapped the Achenar (blue book) vid out for... a bad CGI of a constipated rock-star?... Oh sweet Jesus, I just can't stop laughing. A-ha-ha-ha-ha. :-D

Hard pass... Maybe I'll try again with Myst (The 6th Remake) in 2026...

LOL. I honestly expected them to upscale + clean up the vids with AI or something. You know, like those colourized 4k 60fps WW1 vids you see on Youtube. I'm honestly... too bewildered to comment...

Edit: Despite the game being out mere hours it looks like modders have already frantically scrambled to patch out the hideous new CGI with original vids (though the ending is apparently unfixable...) Insta-unwishlisted...

Not sure what you mean; it's designed around what is basically the click-to-move/teleporting scheme of the original Myst. Not uncommon with VR games.

Man, it's been ages since Myst V (see what I did there), and the massive step down of 3D characters compared to FMV from the earlier games has not been improved upon.

Can't blame you. Lack of day/night cycles and no Rime kills it for me...Hopefully those fixes work for Obduction and/or RealMyst ME at least.
Is the original 1993 Myst bundled in as an extra? or just this 2021 one?
