Spectrum_Legacy: I thought so too, esp. after seeing that only the BFG edition landed on GOG back then. It's surprising that
bathesda didn't remove the original version on steam, but I guess they are aware of people who simply don't buy into "improved graphics and gameplay of BFG edition" which is like a meme now, considering that the old version actually has higher quality native textures than the BFG and allows higher graphical settings among other things.
As long as the original is up for sale, then it's good - I just wish that gog would sell what many consider the best version, instead of what
bathesda calls the superior version. However as it seems, not everyone gets that and we can't choose here.
Makes me glad I kept my physical CD boxed copy that my girlfriend bought for me for Christmas 2004 when I could not afford it.
If Steam has it too, then great, I guess. But GOG should too. But the powers that be at Bethesda really don't seem to care, as they are focused only on huge profits. It would probably be as simple as telling an underling to send the files over, but they can't be bothered.
Anyway, yes, I have played both versions, and there are MASSIVE differences, at least to me.
I am actually happy that both versions exist, because depending on my mood, I have enjoyed both of them. The real crime here is that, as you already stated, we the GOG-loyal are not allowed to choose.
