Warning: adult content

TomNuke: Nice to see this on GOG at the same time as everyone else!

For all you JRPG fans out there, I'd highly recommend you check this one out. Yes, it's RPG Maker, but don't disregard it because of that. Kamichichi makes some really enjoyable JRPGs with RPG Maker, and based on my experience with 'Apostle' and 'Island SAGA', I can say with a lot of confidence that you'll get dozens of hours of great turn-based JRPG gameplay.

And please remember to download the Unrated Patch here on GOG if you're interested in such content. While the previous games that I mentioned above would still all be enjoyable without the very high quality "spicy content", these are adult JRPGs at heart, and that's where a lot of the appeal is going to be for folks.

Anyways, I hope some of you will give 'Apostle: Rebellion' a chance and enjoy the game!

And just to note - You do NOT need to have played 'Apostle' to enjoy this title. It's a fully enjoyable game standalone.
Seems interesting, I have a hard time getting over the draw style though.Just like voxel games.

TomNuke: Don't you think you're being a bit overdramatic?
avatar
Darvond: Eh, not really. While I have no quarry or quarter* with the releases, even the most sleazy video store bothered to put up some clear marker that you were going to enter the adult section.

As Telika mentions, this game puts a different image to mind than yet another budget looking Kagura Games publication with absurdly massive baps. (We have over 20 now.) There are no early Christians and none of them appear to be rebelling. (Plus, can't GOG throw us buttock lovers a bone and give us something with Riendonut sized backspaces?)

*Okay, so they do look a bit like free porn games I'd have found on Newgrounds in 2004...you know, the kind the Retsupurae channel covered, because they were shoddily made, brainless, and pointless.
II'm all for an adult tag, there is a lot of games that I wouldn't waste my time on if they were tagged right even if the name was interesting. Not the Adult ones, those interest me :P
Always using the Eroges for that claim gets old though.

The game is clearly marked as adult content in the description btw.

Telika: It's not a "new game". There are a lot of new games I'm not interested in for many reasons, but are always worth checking out, in a "hey, a new game, what is it about" way. But when a new title is announced and you get rickrolled into a porn VN, it simply feels like entering another shop.
I'm not even going to bother reading the rest of your post, because you've already started off with statements that are completely wrong.

It actually is a game, and RPG at that. Where exactly you're getting the idea that this is a Visual Novel I have no idea. There was a Visual Novel adult game that release yesterday, so maybe you're in the wrong thread?

And again, just because you don't like something that doesn't mean it's any less of a game. It still deserves the same treatment as any other game release thread does. GOG owes that much to their business partners who're releasing software on its store.

i_ni: What adult content actually???

Why are there no specifics on what the "mature themes and graphic images" are? Am I expected to buy and play the game, to find it out? That's not effective ...

I'd suggest GoG to be more explicit on the tag of "adult content" to save GoG's customer's time and/or picque their interest up. It'd result in better customer experience and likely better sales. Or at least give better pointers, be it a post in the game's GoG forum?
The game is technically censored until you "opt in" and choose to download the free Unrated DLC on the store page.

As for what specific mature themes and imagery is in the game, well, you'll should already have an idea of what it is. It's going to be explicit sexual imagery.

Are you really suggesting that GOG should be listing the specfic fetishes, genres, and scenarios that are present in the game?

The thing is that there's literally no adult content being depicted on GOG's store "shelves". So the whole idea that these games should be "sectioned off" is absurd. There's no nudity, nothing depicted on the store pages or even the Unrated DLC pages. You guys are just being overdramatic and acting outraged about games (yes, games) being on GOG you don't like.

It's actually a really nice for an RPG Maker game. I've been playing it for the past few hours and I'm having a good time with it. Definitely not something that is low budget or low effort.

Darvond: If I had to take a wild guess, it's probably something along the lines of your classical "Characters in Non-Consenting Scene when you lose".

I tried looking for reviews of it, but unsurprisingly none exist for it, go figure.
Then you'd be guessing wrong. Surprise, surprise. This isn't a GoR or Game over R*** game, and to be honest I'm not really a fan of those games anyways. So I wouldn't be playing it if it was.

It'd actually be categorized as a Sweet Love / Harem game. There's actually relationship points you need to earn with the characters. It's sort of like Trails of Cold Steel, if you've ever played that. You have so many points that you can use during free sections and you spend those with the girls you want and it's kind of a relationship build up. I know there'll be harem endings that the like also.

It's actually the kind of game that is good for people who don't want something real hardcore. There's a good JRPG there for people and also the relationship building aspect.

I can't say with 100% certainly that there wouldn't be a non-consensual scene somewhere, but the game is absolutely NOT created with that in mind.
I should correct myself, the sprites and evironments are really nice looking actually, but the drawing style of the pictures is not my cup of tea.
I need a breast reduction patch lol

Some of the Kagura games are real hit and miss, from your description, this one will hopefully be a good one.

If the (actual?) "Adult Content" comes with a patch(I understand this is the case from your input) then no action is needed from GoG side. I bothered, again, to find an official statement what comes with the "patch", to no avail: https://www.kaguragames.com/product/apostle-rebellion > Patch has no related info.

How am I supposed to get what the "Adult Content" is if neither Dev/Publisher/Shop speaks of it? Is it typical, I'm puzzled?

On the topic of my expectations:
- Should be Devs' job to describe in a few sentences what the mature content is; (as you did in the same post)
- Then GoG gives a pointer(url) or just copy/pastes.
Would spare their customers time and efforts and would likely increase sales: open information -> better judgement -> more sales.
For me "Adult Content", as they put is, is like a wall hiding stuff I might be (much) fine with... Lots of efforts to get behind it so I'd likely not bother to dig on my own or buy the game as it is to figure if it matches my taste or not.

Magnitus: All the women in the video save one look like they've had quite a bit of breast enlargement surgery.

Aesthetically, I find it rather unappealing to look at. I wish they didn't do that (erotic game or not).
well everybody got their taste of course. But personally I love it :)

Okay, so I understand the patching process might be confusing to some people.

Here's the deal, the GOG version comes censored initially for a couple reasons. One, because there might be people who for whatever reason don't want the adult content in their game, and two, because if the game was uncensored "out of the box" then the game would be blocked here in certain regions.

The uncensored, or "Unrated" DLC in this case, is hosted by GOG and for sale as a FREE DLC. IF that DLC is blocked because you're in Germany or somewhere else, then you can still buy the game and download the Unrated Patch from Kagura Games own website.

As for what is "Adult Content", well, the easiest and simplest way to put it would be "explicit sexual content". I know that might not tell the whole story or get as descriptive as one might like, but that's how it is on certain stores.

You'll notice that even on Kagura Games own store there's really no nudity or anything show. There's no explicit image samples available to view. This by design.

GOG.com operates in the same way. There's no graphio imagery or even anything too sexual given in text descriptions. Which is why arguments to "section off" these games from other GOG releases, or comparing to an adult section in a video store is poor at best.

If you want adult samples or more thorough "Tags" or "Fetishes" listed for this game then you should view the games store page on DLsite.com or FAKKU.net. I don't want to link directly to these store pages, because it will take you to explicit content.

*Please be advised that if you do view the game on DLsite you will see mosaic censorship present, which is not the case for the localized version by Kagura Games because this version is fully uncensored.*

I know it's not ideal for some, and you'd like more detailed and graphic explanations on what "Adult Content" means here, but there's options available for you to do that. You can always ask in a game release thread like what type of content is this game focused around, and I'm sure there's people who will tell you.

I could get into more specific tags, fetishes and specific scenarios that play out in the game, but I don't want to say anything that could get me in trouble with GOG. There's people who hate me on this forum and I don't want to give anyone the chance to report me. The best I can say is what I've already said in previous posts.

Both posts upvoded for bringing the desired clarity to the topic of "Adult Content". Thanks!
I start reading the messages posted and i am starting to think that I've lived for way too long. What has happened to this world where men don't like large breasts anymore? Are you even men?

This feels like absurd stereotyping and just a bit sexist.

For one, maybe some of us just aren't into breasts that are literally bigger than the character's head.
For two, there's the classical problem of managing to look so well prepared in a situation described as post-apocalyptic. Cybernetics or no, I'd like to know how a bright pink jacket and fucking hotpants doesn't paint an immediate target on the party.

Also, I'd like to give a special Anti-Shoutout to Lee Al Lin for the Serial Numbers Filed Off doorprize of Worst Chun-Li Cosplay.

Telika: It's not a "new game". There are a lot of new games I'm not interested in for many reasons, but are always worth checking out, in a "hey, a new game, what is it about" way. But when a new title is announced and you get rickrolled into a porn VN, it simply feels like entering another shop. It's a different object with a whole different function. I can dislike a random platformer or racer, but it's still, like a RTS, meant to be enjoyed without a dick in one hand and a kleenex in another, so I can understand why a videogame shop asks us if we're interested in it. And actually, there is also a difference between featuring sexual content (in a book, movie, song, game) and being a porn product. Again, not the same function.

I understand GOG makes money with that, and it's legitimate and not even in contradiction with curation. Again, I've known a video shop owner who was an avid cinephile, but admitted that his shop was making profit thanks to its backroom porn videos. That's what allowed him to curate the real movies and sell them at decent price. But still, he had them separated. We could browse movies without getting "anal underage princesses 7" between "the godfather" and "broken flowers".

Right now, gog just mixes up apples and oranges. And honestly for dumb reasons : it branches out to porn, okay, but doesn't assume it - as the reluctant and euphemistic tags show. It's certainly convenient for some customers' self-definition ("i'm, uh, buying a videogame, because it, er, the gameplay is interesting"), but it's mildly inconvenient for those who peruse gog as a videogame store.

Because "apostle: rebellion" would have sounded kinda cool for a real game's title. But nope. We're not in the real game section here. We're in the boobs slideshow section. Surprise.

(Actually, GOG had the same problem a while ago, wen it tried to branch into movies. You saw a new title, went "hey cool, haven't heard of that game" and "oh, it's just a short film". But at least they kept the shops separated.)
To be fair though, for better or for worse (I'll admit I don't have a well developed opinion about that, I tend to think that in a purely fictitious context, it is rather harmless), I know of at least one 'game' (VN really with limited choices that do impact the story) that straddles that line and have a foot in both worlds.

Song of Saya has segments that felts downright pornographic, but it is still a legitimate visual novel with an engaging story.

Thinking about it some more, while ultimately it wasn't for me, I'd say Huniepop also has a legitimate claim at being a game (the reflex puzzles, the memory games while 'dating', the pleasant soundtrack and overall aesthetics, it has things going for it), yet part of it felt pornographic (although admittedly that part is limited to pictures).

I could see other games following suit.

Is your entire objective in these threads to be overdramatic and act outraged / offended, while spouting misinformation in the process of trying to come up with poorly thoughtout arguments? You try to argue for silly things like GOG sectioning off these releases or hiding them away and comparing it like a sleezy video store, and I shut down that poor argument immediately.

No one says anyone has to like these games, and if a game isn't for you for whatever reason that's totally fine, but don't you have anything better to do with your time? You don't like the game, and everyone knows how you feel about it, so what's the point? I'm just trying to understand why you'd even bother here. Are you trying to drive people away from buying games you don't like on GOG, in the hopes that GOG will stop accepting them? All you'd accomplish in that scenario is hurting GOG.

The game isn't exactly a post apocalyptic setting either, so this isn't Fallout or something. It's a futuristic setting that is post war, but it's developed and set within a megalopolis called Neo-Eden. There's many districts and places to explore which were inspired by a variety of cultures. The NPC's of the game all have unique looks, ages, ethnicities, and styles to them. Much like you'd see in Cyberpunk 2077's Night City. Miyabi wearing a hot pink jacket in no way looks out of place within the setting, which is filled with unique styles, color, lights, and so on.

And if you want to talk about comments being offensive, then we could easily point out your comment about Ai Lin. Calling a Chinese girl or woman a cheap Chun-Li cosplay knockoff for wearing a traditional Chinese dress is offensive.

Ah thanks for this post, wonder how long is the game on first playthrough since it has many features.
Do tell how long you needed if there is a timer ingame or you would know this info.
