So, I'm wondering what recent-ish turn-based WRPGs are out there. Now, before you give suggestions, there is one very important requirement:

* The *entire* game must be turn-based, not just the battles. (This means that many RPGs that are often called "turn-based" don't qualify because, when you're not in battle, the game plays in real-time.)

Anyway, the motivation for this topic comes from playing a couple recent Spiderweb Software games. Specifically, in Geneforge 1 - Mutagen (turn-based combat, but not otherwise), there'd be times when I'd finish a battle, only to get into another one before I have a chance to save or heal, which is incredibly frustrating. On the other hand, playing Queen's Wish 1 (entirely turn-based) I don't have this issue.

Some recent-ish turn-based WRPGs that I'm aware of are:
* Queen's Wish 1 (and probably 2)
* Nox Archaist

So, what other ones are there?

(Reminder, I'm looking for games that are *entirely* turn-based; just having turn-based combat isn't enough.)
Skald Against the Black Priory has this type of turn-based movement pattern. Here is a link to the demo

The Lost Sectors talk with Al (developer) and Chris could also be of interest to you.

I'm sure you will be scolded soon for ignoring the "recent-ish" in the request. ;)

2006 - 2014, isn't it "recent-ish"? Geneforge from OP is five years older than the first Eschalon game.

But Mutagen (the recent remake of this first game) is not.

paladin181: Of Blades and Tails
The description describes it as an "Action RPG", so either it's misusing the term (which I suspect may be the case), or the game is an action game and therefore definitely doesn't qualify.

The game is entirely turn-based and says nothing about action RPG. It says it is turn-based, but action oriented (I think it means that all actions are a turn).

Quote from the game card: "It aims to be an accessible and entertaining Action-RPG." If what you say is true, then the description is incorrect.

In Blades and Tales the movement and fights are entirely turn-based, just like in Queen's Wish, and practically all of Mr. V's other games. You take one or several moves, and non-stationary NPCs move for an equal amount of steps. When an enemy comes into view, the game switches to a hybrid turn-based mode, where your character or the enemy can either take an action or make a single move. The game itself is action-oriented - inspired by Diablo and other ARPG, meaning that it is focused on looting items, gear, and weapons, character development, exploration, and quests, while less emphasis is put on story, lore and interaction with mostly stationary NPC.

I wouldn't call it action-oriented.

In particular, it's not anymore action-oriented than, say, Progress Quest (which has everything you mention except exploration).

Anyway, maybe I'll try the Skald demo.
