The thing is, you don't care about games at all, you care about storytelling. And when it comes to matters of storytelling, nothing will top a good book.
A game cannot be judged based on its storytelling alone, it's much more than that. A game isn't made to just tell a story, that's not the point of the medium, it's made to give a particular experience to the player, an experience that can only be delivered through the video game medium. A game should be judged by what makes the medium unique and the other medium they incorporate. In other words, by their mechanics, by the underlying systems behind them and how they work together and also by the individual parts that comes to complete the experience (soundtrack, story, voice acting, cutscene cinematography, ect)
Minecraft is a masterpiece of a game, yet has no story, no character, no humor (don't know why that's a criteria to judge a story or game).
RocketLeague is another game that shines purely through its gameplay alone.
Take Divinity Original sin : certainly not a good story, but the coop experience, the combat mechanics and the freedom of choice the game provide vastly makes up for it and its other flaws and the game still deliver a memorable experience and is one of the best RPG of the last decade.
What makes a good game is not what makes a good book.
And on a non related note :
There's a big difference between what someone likes and what they should consider good. Personal preferences shouldn't hinder one's judgement of what is good and what is bad. I can hate something and still think it's good, because i can appreciate the quality of the work, what it brings to the medium, how intricately crafted everything is and how much of an impact the overall experience leaves on me.

You're right: most games are trash. But that's true of anything that's produced in massive quantities. It's true of books, movies, tv shows, and yes even music. The issue becomes what is considered 'trash', and not letting too much subjectivity or bias creep into that definition.

There's just so many games, but almost none that are truly worth spending dozens of hours on. Tons of quantity, but very little quality. Most of them have nonsense stories, no humour, no sense of tragedy, dumb characters, NPCs without personality, chaotic and messy battles, a zillion worthless items, etc. The only mostly high quality constant in them, are the soundtracks. I must say, especially PC games, have the most amazing soundtracks I have heard. And the graphics in most of the 'best' modern games are very pretty. But that's where it all ends, for me.
End of the rant :)

Alas,Gangnam Bibi Hendl Style has only 400,000 views, despite the touch of class that adding an accordion and yodeling adds to the original.

Speaking of objective opinions, what do people say at a Grateful Dead concert when they run out of drugs?
"Man, these guys suck!"
