When I said nothing to gain, I was talking about the bigger picture, and for that you need to look at the very minimal short term gain you mention as a possibility, compared to the bigger longer term penalty for being wrong.

As it is trust has been eroded, and many have been upset over this with GOG, and some have indeed purchased elsewhere when it became pretty clear that GOG aren't getting the Enhanced version any time soon, maybe never, so by my reckoning GOG are indeed worse off due to it all. So in short they lost more than any likely gain.

Given the update isn't too sizeable and seemed to hit every other release of the game, I think it would be some level of fair assumption on GOG's side they would get it too but for whatever reason, it wasn't the case. Worth remembering there wasn't a physical version (PC) released by Limited Run either due to refusal from Bethesda

The short term gain was a "right now" gain when they had every prospect of being able to sell us the game soon. The longer term of "what if it never arrives" probably didn't even cross their minds. Why would it not?

Why wait when you can just buy the game? Is there a massive huge problem just doing a fresh install off of GOG?

EDIT: Regular edition, not enhanced. You can buy the Enhanced elsewhere obviously (I have it on Xbox on GamePass. They didn't make the controls tight and it's real awkward.)

GOG seems to be Bethesda's dumping ground. When games don't make the big $ on other stores anymore we might see them appear here. Not a moment earlier. At least that is how it currently feels like when it comes to new releases from Bethesda.

Yeah just got the free version on epic, launches without internet connection and epic running with a small warning. I don't see why it cant be on GOG.

B/c they (Bethesda and Id) would have to remove that warning and we'd never get that warning.on GOG Version. It tries to connect to Bethesda's servers, basically. That's not allowed here on GOG; it has to be DRM-FREE.

And there's all of the extra content/mods that would need to be packaged w/ the game itself on GOG, instead of being forced to get a Bethesda account & then grab that stuff within the game w/ that slick Soft-DRM method.

My guess - when Bethesda/Zenimax/Nightdive are done adding content/extras/mods/junk and this game has had its run on every other DRM-store - it'll get a GOG Port, like Skyrim did.

Bruh, do you have Doom I and II on gog? Have you ever launched the Unity remakes that were released on gog not too long ago? In case you haven't I've attached two handy screenshots of what happens when you try to access add ons in the gog version.

Yup, looks like those online hooks - those that are supposedly keeping the Quake EE from being released here - are still intact.

It's safe to say that the Quake EE on Epic is no more and no less DRMed than the Doom 1&2 EEs on gog.

My guess: Bethesda/Zenimax/Nightdive simply don't give a shit - in fact, they have made this abundantly clear in various correspondence where gog customers inquired about the status of the EE (Check out the other Quake thread for a nice example).

I have Doom 1&2 over on Steam actually.
I actually also have old copies of Doom: Collector's Pack w/ Doom 1 and 2 from Retail also.
Also got Doom 3 & ROE from Retail and also on Steam; and have DOOM 3: BFG on Steam.

EDIT - Why the heck are the Bethesda-Checks in GOG version of Doom 1 and 2? What the heck is going on here on GOG?
