JMich: It has an email, which is fully visible.

fishbaits: ^This, others (& probably our own) emails has been made visible.
Data protection laws etc, steam is probably about to get shit stormed.

I`ll be letting the users I saw before realised, that their account/details was compromised.
Damn sure I`d want to know too.
If Steam themselves don't do it, maybe all of us who see somebody else's account information can pull up their email address and send them a friendly notice that you could see their stuff, thus indicating to them that they're in potential danger.
There seem to be unwanted purchases made because of this glitch:

Hah this will be fun to watch. Not concerned about that $1 in my steam wallet, don't think I ever gave it my cc. Ever if I did I always leave my cc account on a few bucks only, more of a hassle of getting a new one if compromised. I'll have to double check... I hate sites that save cc info.

Fun? No. Interesting? Definitely.

BKGaming: Well damn that sucks. Don't think I have much on my Steam account other than an old email. No CC or store credit I believe. But shit, this is serious and people say Steam is more secure than GOG....
it's probably more secure than PSN. insert sarcasm tag.
Hahhaha!

Nope, could not personally care less what happens to peoples steam accounts. But hey it was nice to revisit my abandoned account and see that I really lost nothing by abandoning it, cept the money I wasted on it.

Saw someone's account myself, even had a CC attached, though it only shows the last 2 digits and no security number.

Not too worried about my own account. Worst they have my email and phone number, neither of which will do them any good since they can't get into either one.

Still should never have happened of course.

It'll be interesting if the unauthorized purchases thing proves to be true (and not just people using the situation to make refunds they want)
Haven't touched my account in over 2 years and the credit cards that were linked to it are long cancelled.

But it's Valve so I'm sure people will forgive this quite easily and Gabe will just throw a few discounts and put up some false hope that Half-Life 3 is actually being worked on to get people to forget.
Hum... this be the reason why I bluaady could not get unto actually snatching up Cities: Skylines earlier today in Steam?

Neither a heart-blood fan of Valve (though reluctantly and coolly politely accepting of it as of now) - or even the simulation genre - but maybe this purported 3rd party xmas shopping craze on my account could explain the lack of access... to the store.

I fully believe that Valve is pretty much a micropenis-headed sort of a corporation - but then also, selling should be their utmost priority, or not? If they had been able to sell, they would have.

I am assuming this is then some sort of a web attack on Steam.

But let me state my a priori Valve hostile position: if Steam did not serve a regrettably significant niche in the gaming market - it would not be there! And that niche is about IP, not individual gamers.

Steam seemingly does not like Win OS on Mac HW; it is a heavy and intrusive client and getting unto any sort of personalized customer support is very hard.

What I want to say: Valve is not there for its objective greatness or popularity.

But it is there, and there is a reason - and a pity such a corporation should have taken the market lead!

I see Valve a bit like Basel III requirements imposed on banks post sub-prime crash, only less dramatic for the general economy and more pronounced on the end consumer = gamer, in our case.

Do I like it, necessarily: no. Do I see the market flaw: yes.

Edit: making clearer that 1st sentence was tied to the second. I hope, lol.

Excuse me while I side onto the hilarious side of things and playfully suggest that after the dust settles, we use this SNAFU FOOBAR to advertise for GOG.

Why?

KneeTheCap: Why?
Because we have much more faith in GOG's web/database coding ;)
Had it myself, different language on storepage, account details showing another user and his email.

Now Steam is back up again, my account details are my personal ones again, same amount on my steam wallet as before, nothing changed in my inventory.... in short: as if nothing has happened at all.
Of course I still changed my password.

For those laughing at Steam now: yes, concerns are valid. But fingerpointing is sooo outta place guys... something like this happening on other places, at this time of the year? Yeah, I'd be worried more. A lot.

Actually they can hack my account all they want and even steal all my 729 Steam games if this means Lord Gaben will give us Half Life 3 now.
