Every so often I've been playing
Uplink: Hacker Elite a little bit more and to me it seems like a point-n-click game.
It's very pointer oriented. I've yet to discover any keyboard shortcuts.
There is some typing that needs to be done like in some point-n-click adventures, and then of course spelling matters. However, so far it has been very little typing, and there isn't really any guessing what needs to be typed because it's been given in the assignment. With that said, it does make very apparent the lack of copy/paste, and that's odd considering its theme of using a computer.
It feels a little bit like Myst to me because I'm not playing a character, instead I'm just myself and it's okay I don't know anything beforehand. A lot of other games require I deal with my amnesia of two or three decades for the main character, meaning it'll make more sense playing those other games a second time around once I'm fully aware of their worlds. Uplink seems more re-playable than Myst because it's okay if I do have prior knowledge.
Uplink has been an interesting, if perhaps unexpected, point-n-click adventure. Very easy to slip into, though it does sometimes feel like I'm troubleshooting or trying to figure out workarounds. I'd be getting further into it if wasn't currently trying to work something out with
Might and Magic VI.
