Outpost. Version 1.5 and/or Version 2.0. The wall of text below is not necessary to read to respond to this thread as all I'm hoping for is getting folks to share their thoughts on this game... maybe talk about what they liked about it and what they didn't like... and perhaps even give me a few hints on gameplay (LOL). Thank you VERY MUCH to anyone that takes the time to respond. I appreciate ALL responses.

I had a flood last summer and lost nearly everything I owned. One of the things that did survive though was most of my physical game collection as they were high enough to have stayed dry. I had several bookshelves and cabinets full of games lol.

Over the past week or so I've just gotten around to going through them to figure out what to do with them and of course.... I'm hitting some serious nostalgia buttons and as well as some "On My God I forgot I had that!" too.

An example of the latter is I have two Outpost games (boxes, with CD's and manuals). One is labelled Version 1.5 and the other is labelled 2.0.

I remember dabbling with the former one a bit (I know I didn't play 2.0 at all because the box is still sealed lol) but don't really recall a lot about it. And this same thing repeated itself for some other games. So... I went to this "pirate" website and downloaded some of the games that I owned but couldn't get to play myself and that aren't available on GOG or Steam and sure enough... I now have a working version of Outpost 1.5 on my Windows 10 computer (same thing happened with Rise and Rule of Ancient Empires which I did play A LOT back in the day as I really enjoyed that game and my box complete with manual was still in good shape.)

But I'm really at a loss with this game and am hoping to read some experiences of some goggers to gauge what they thought of the game and perhaps how I should approach the game.

So come on... let's talk about OUTPOST. Okay???

I LOVE... NOOOOOOOOOOOO I DON'T :D
Outpost used to be considered one of the worst video games of all time. I never played it myself. I have played Outpost 2 though. I played it a lot. It was one of my favorite games for a while. One thing I thought was pretty cool was that each mission would unlock another chapter of a novella. You didn't have to read it to follow the story, but I thought it added a lot to the game. It made me feel much more invested in the story.

Oh, yea, I guess I might as well add "I LOVE ZELDA"

Oh cool... THANK YOU. I didn't even know that about 2 (having a novella). Now I'm much more interested in 2... lol.

Thanks again.

I looked a bit of that gameplay video of the first game, and yeah that is exactly the feeling I get with these kind of games (Civilizations etc.), where you are just thrown into some piece of land of planet and you are supposed to start building your empire from a scratch, not really understanding what the heck you are supposed to be doing anyway? Keep building new buildings whose exact purpose you don't even understand, or try to explore (for what? the whole world seems empty), or produce lots of army units as there is supposed to be some enemy army coming at you... what what whaaaat?

I always wonder if I am really supposed to first read the whole manual cover to cover before I even start playing, or am I supposed to learn the game ins and outs by just starting to play it, and do... something? Then I start getting a series of "a-ha!"-revelations when things start happening and I notice I've been doing it all wrong, and need to restart from scratch over and over again...

I always used to do this... and when manuals are available still do. But as I said I was just going through my stuff really instead of "planning" on playing Outpost so I hadn't read the manual yet. Thing is though IIRC when I dabbled with it back in the day I think I did read the manual and still had some trouble with this game. Same can be said for Galactic Civilizations... man my stupid brain just won't grasp that game for some reason despite reading the manual. And it's frustrating because I think it's a game I would LOVE. lol

When they execute someone with Lethal Injection, why do they disinfect the needle before putting it in?

the arm of the condemned is swabbed with alcohol before the needle is inserted. along with its antiseptic use, the alcohol also causes the blood vessels to rise to the skin's surface, making it easier to insert the needle. the needles and equipment used are also sterilized. one reason for this is because the needles are standard medical products that are sterilized during manufacturing. also, there is a chance that the prisoner could receive a stay of execution after the needles have been inserted as happened in the case of james autry in october 1983 (he was executed eventually on 14 march 1984). finally, it would also be a hazard for those handling unsterile equipment.
