I'll probably back this one too. The first one was incredible despite the off-putting time limit and half-assed management sim.

Some people say that they did not enjoy having a time limit, but in practice they were not bothered by it, that it was a very generous one. Was that your experience (I have not played the game, so, trying to get an idea).

It's pretty generous, yes. Just knowing it was there and that it was ticking away really irked me, is all.

Do they really need another Kickstarter?
Did they not make enough profit?
Are we just venture capitalists for our games now lol. I guess they DID deliver. It just feels weird seeing a second Kickstarter. Is like barely sustainable for them.

Slightly related: What about Pillars of Eternity 3? Too bad that Jeff Vogel's prophesy for the eventual sequel (made in 2017, before Pillars of Eternity 2 was released) became true: that good sales for Pillars of Eternity (since there is demand for Western RPG) did not mean that the sequel would be successful at all. He pointed out some aspects that could have made the game, great as it is, a bit more approachable.

Apparently, the Definitive Edition of Pillars of Eternity 2 is soon to be published. It would be a good chance for jumping on that wagon, for those who still did not.

It would be great if, in their effort to improve the sales, they do not nix what made Pillasr of Eternity special.

Still busy with Pillars of Eternity here, so, no idea about how PIllars of Eternity 2 came out. Before playing and reading the lore of Pillars of Eternity, the maritime environment did not look so exciting, but now, knowing more about this great, wide world, well, it is begging for some exploration. So, yes, this player is sold on it and will be getting the Definitive Edition, hopefully.

I think the reason Kingmaker sold better than PoE2 is that PoE2 took too many liberties and went too far from traditional D&D (both in terms of the setting and the mechanics), while Kingmaker was very close to D&D (using the modified 3.5 ruleset etc) which attracted CRPG grognards who felt a bit alienated by the streamlined approach of Josh Sawyer's school of design.

I mean, not many people seem to mention that Pillars of Eternity is NOT medieval high fantasy, it's actually more of a pseudo-scientific Renaissance with gunpowder setting.

What do you mean Definitive Edition? Is the Obsidian Edition missing something?

Wait a minute, weren't you commenting few weeks ago that you were irked by time limit of the first chapter and because of that you never went far in the game? How did you manage to finish this thing in couple of weeks?

This is gonna be hard to resist, we need more of these games.

I think that everyone should be able to tell from the context that you do not mean the language of the poles (Poles as in people from Poland, not wooden sticks nor magnetic/planetary poles)

People should be able to tell the difference but many can not if you can believe it ! i have done that mistake several times before so i just put it there to cover any eventual misunderstanding.
