And by the way, when are we getting the missing German voiceovers of German Deadalic games, that are on Steam? Memoria and the Dark Eye: Chains of Satinav.

Wow. Looks like even mentioning the DRM gets you a permanent community forum ban on Steam... No reason given, no warning and they don't reply to messages.

Thought it was a mistake as it seemed rather heavy handed but seeing now that the other guy merely asking for technical support got his thread locked... I guess that's just how they moderate. I'd hate to see what they do to people breaching actual rules. *shivers*

but that's what they already did! they released it DRMed. they released it even more DRMed than your usual Steam release, according to user posts provided by lukaself here. they postponed DRM-free release (of course it will come here, but I'll bet on later rather than sooner) that was aleady promised.
if they did not bother to promote game here at all and simply released it a year or two later, I would probably not have said a bad word, because that's what we GOGlodytes got used to.
but in this case they are showing not the usual indifference, but... um... disrespect, for the lack of more suitable word.
and now GOG release after skimming the cream off will only confirm status of GOG users as 'second-class citizens', as Fronzelneekburm called it.

well, maybe it wouldn't be that bad if DRM-free release still come here at least in 2020. but I highly doubt it, to be honest.

Thanks for summing it up perfectly and for the vote of confidence. Despite being a long time lurker, I don't post much on GOG because I'm used to most of the usual disdain we're subjected to by the less pro-consumer part of this industry. Not even the No Man's Sky situation made me react but adding an online DRM after announcing, hyping and in the end, cancelling a DRM-free release felt weirdly antagonistic and a direct jab at the values dear to GOG users.

I would have been fine with a simple staggering release, like in the case of Control.

Meanwhile, almost at the same time you have the devs from the game RAJI faced with the same situation (small dev, first game) taking the complete opposite approach, openly communicative about this topic and realizing that not only the DRM didn't stop anything, it wasn't the minor concern they thought it'd be for their customers, deciding on release day to remove their DRM completely: https://steamcommunity.com/games/730390/announcements/detail/4159596607895216999

After all this time, it's sad to see that DRM is still such a dividing topic. I'll just stop here because frankly there's not much point to keep ranting in a thread about a game they tried very hard convincing me not to buy anymore.

A shame it is only sold on DRM-ridden stores, this is the kind of game I would have been ready to buy at full price if they provided a DRM-free installer. Sadly, all I can find is a demo…

Yeah, it doesn't take long for any newcomer to realize most devs look at us as second-class customers simply because we're not their beloved steeme. I think they probably didn't mean to disrespect us directly but wanted DRM on the game's early sales, signed publishing deals with many stores first and only realized that they included a DRM-free store among them very close to launch.

TL;DR: sucks to be the customers of the "second-class store". (But the alternative is even worse.)

If you want to concentrate your efforts, why not drop the anti-feature of that ridiculous online check? That would not only save development time but also customer service resources. By now the game is presumably easily available at all popular piracy sites anyway so what, exactly, is the point of the anti-feature?

Edit2: And I checked the profile, that seems to be your most recent posting on these forums. You're not making yourself look good with this ridiculous conduct, and it doesn't help that you lock threads with open bugs in Valve's forums simply because your support is apparently unable to fathom that the DRM code can have bugs.

Sure hope this can make it to GOG sooner-than-later.

Considering their moderators are still instantly perma-banning people mentioning the DRM on the Steam forums of the game, going as far as deleting threads, I'd say the publisher burned quite a lot of bridges with the DRM-free crowd. What an asinine way to lose customers.

Wow, that's terrible. I'd so looked forward to seeing that game here... but if they aren't even allowing the words to be uttered, I guess that won't happen for a looooooong while.

Well that's a bummer. I really don't like the publisher's behavior here. Normally I buy any game I'm interested in at launch/full price. The main reason is that I want to support the developers.

In this case however, should the game come to gog, I'll happily wait until there's a 90% price drop. Announcing the game here, then dropping the announcement with minimal communication and keeping users in the dark both here and on steam is just unacceptable in my opinion.

Good thing Commandos 2: Road to Paris just released as version 2.2. So there's plenty of Commandos to tide me over ;)
