Seems GOG users aren't well aware the one of the best 2010s RPGs got an unofficial update. Just a heads up, hehe.

Head to ModDb to download it but make sure you've read the description too, thanks.

Keyword here is "unofficial".

I downloaded the setup.exe and extracted it with 7-zip to check its contents.
It seems to be a *data* patch only, because it contains a 285MB "resources.assets" file.
As long as there is no binary patching of the game's executable, it should be okay to try.
(Of course I cannot tell what the setup.exe itself does, which is why I used 7-zip to extract it.)

edit:
This is what the description on ModDB says:

A patch oriented on fixing the long standing bugs of the missing Piece of Coral at Block 6 and the issue with the inability to use the King's Key at Block 10. Also fixes some other minor issues, like botched equipment stats (luckily, only some were botched) and wrong descriptions, especially for skills (they now should be more comprehensible and streamlined).

Works with Steam/GOG/Humble Bundle/retail (basically all of them) releases of Paper Sorcerer patched to the latest official v2.5.

To install, launch the installer and point to Paper Sorcerer's installation directory, and then launch the game as usual.

Starting a new game is obligatory!

Thanks for the heads up. It's a while since I played it but I didn't like it that much that I'm going to replay it soon.

Nice! I thought anti-7zip protection in the NSIS script is enabled by default, though?

Also, if you people could "watch" the mod on ModDb, it would be mega awesome. Thanks, I knew you would do it for me.

Heh, maybe i'll be motivated enough to finish this game.
Updated the patch to v1.1 in the source. It fixes all (*all of them*) wrong equipment stats, describes all things a given skill/spell does, and provides some extra text corrections.

WARNING!

Due to how the old Unity handled everything, this update shouldn't be installed in the middle of a playthrough. Finish with the previous version or start a new game.
I patched the game with v 1.0 and the kings key drops shows up as a quest item in the inventory. Sadly it does not show up as a usable item on the door like the other chess keys.

For grins I did try patching 1.1 over the top and reacquiring the key but the issue remains.

The coral issue was fixed, all achievements on steam up to the kings key unlocked without issue.

Thank you for your work, fingers crossed that a clean game patched with 1.1 will make the key usable.

If you could provide me with the saves, I think I could apply another version of the fix that will surely address the issue (force direct key recognize with the replaced "Open" option [since it's useless there, anyway]). However, they would need to be from before the fight with the Demon King or, even better, before entering the level.

The new version of 1.2 was released. It contains the "final fix" for the King's Key issue (and all other fixes too). That problem cannot be botched now, no matter what.
