Anyone find short draw distance or LOD in open world games distracting?

The only games to do it right for me are Far Cry 4, Witcher 3, Dying Light (On max) Just Cause 2, Dragon Age Inquisition, GTA 5, Sleeping Dogs, Far Cry 2 RDR and Mad Max. I may have forgotten few.

Basically there are so many open world games where the loss of detail is so obvious (looking at you Skyrim and Far Cry 3) and grass/bushes appearing on the ground and trees changing detail as you near a location. I find this approach very distracting and immersion ruining.

Developers should find subtle techniques to render detail while not ruining the immersion in for example in Witcher 3 and Far Cry 4.

Anyone else find badly done draw distance distracting?
Nope. And I find annoying the insistence that support expensive developments and support expensive hardware are somehow necessary for my immersion. I appreciate good graphics, but you're talking to a cheese player here. Most immersive game ever. I can forget to eat while playing chess

thats really confusing! O_____o
I don't remember it being that bad in Skyrim.
It depends how short you're talking about. I found it to be hugely distracting when I played Turok, it seemed like the fog came in at about 10m and then you couldn't see anything at all. Same goes for some of the older race games.

But, in general, it's largely a matter of how they manage it. I seem to recall FO3 and FO:NV doing a decent job of managing it, even if I would have preferred to see further. In that universe having things obscured by haze sort of worked in a way that it wouldn't work in most other games.

[Splutter] Uh, what? Where am I? What was I saying? Oh my! You... you saved me! Thank you!
Freddi Fish 2 without a doubt has the most crisp rendering distance ever see in a computer game. The fact that the game is as non-liner as it is makes the average AAA, AA or even A games on the market look like a baby's first open world game. So while you're all wading through your Failouts, Smellder Scrolls, Witcher Pees, Fad Maxes, Fart Crys, S.H.L.O.C.K.E.R.S., and Cybergunk: 2077s, I for one will be playing the objectively superior Freddi Fish 2.

I haven't played any of the games you mentioned in your post, but i find it pretty distracting in Oblivion & Skyrim. Thankfully, with the right tweaks, the "problem" isn't too noticeable and, in the case of Skyrim, i like to set the weather to foggy via the console and play the game that way.
I'm reminded of Morrowind, where the draw distance could be like up to 300 feet, or if you had performance issues, as low as like 10 feet and dense fog everywhere.

On the other hand, the lack of far draw distances helped hide the size of the island, because if you can see the whole distance you might be annoyed since it's actually not that big.
In 25 years of gaming I have never really cared about draw distance.
True, its not pretty when you see things load up, but I'm always aware I'm playing a game anyway.
I find loading screens to be be far more than annoying than draw distance. Not RPGs, but you've got games like Silent Hill and Turok where the low draw distance (ie fog) actually adds to the atmosphere.
